KirbyJack
Might be my favorite EC. Phenomenal cover, and features my favorite EC war story, “Corpse On The Imjin”. AJD, OtherEric and Raze

Raze
@Robot Man I was the under bidder on the weird science 15 you suck Obviously I am playing around Im glad it went to a fellow board!!!!!! Also I felt like your "rant" was justified. Plus you didn't out the seller and you were honest and upfront with us. I got my 2 books from the same seller and I've not had a problem before. Im happy to hear that they are making it right! Spoiler ( you also could have just sold my that moldy thing to me...it would have fit in nice with all my other horrendous ECs!!) But It was a EC weekend for me (labor day)!!! I got some killer books. BUUUUUUT which one do I read first..... All 3 are stellar fifties. I do have a sentimental favorite though. I got a small pile of ECs from my uncle as a kid. My first real exposure to them. That Crypt #23 was a real stand out and shook me up. Still at the top of the heap for me today! KirbyJack and Larryw7
Popular Post Robot Man
This is an undercopy. I got it from Ritchie Munchin at a show pretty cheap because it had a little resto. Because of that, I broke all my rules and had Al Feldstein deface it a little further... KirbyJack, OtherEric, fifties and 4 others

No comment on which to read first, since I assume you've already read both in the 12 hours since this was posted. Gratz, in particular, in picking up the Shock #1. I'll have a good Labor Day pickup to show once it arrives, but since I only got the pay from the overtime day I worked on the weekend today it only just got ordered. I would start with Two-Fisted, myself. But I've read a reprint of the Shock, while the Two-Fisted is one of the only four Kurtzman-edited EC's I haven't read in either original or reprint. Robot Man
I didn’t know there was a Bill Elder collection. I have a few from Johnny Craig’s collection as well as a Kurtzman and Feldstein file copy. Raze
Ivan Ivanstein
Hi gang, I'm new to the boards but have been an EC and Pre-Code fan for decades. Back in the 1990s I was the comic book specialist for Green Apple Books, San Francisco's largest and best bookstore, and I did a couple of catalogues for them. One of my catalogues showcased EC, Mad and Pre-Code Horror. It was incredibly fun to put together! Every now and then a copy of the catalogue pops up on eBay. I wonder if anyone here was a Green Apple comics buyer back then? Cheers, Ivan Director of Comics, PBA Galleries Auctioneers, San Francisco Bay Area. HouseofComics.Com
Hilarious cover! I definitely went to Green Apple back in the day. Ivan Ivanstein
Ivan Ivanstein
There was a ton of fun stuff in the Green Apple catalogue... It's startling to see how cheaply one could buy certain comics back then relative to today's prices! The best item in the catalogue, in my opinion, was the original front cover to Mad #21, featuring the first cover appearance of Alfred E. Neuman. I was the former owner of the piece... it's probably the only thing I've ever sold that I feel a bit of remorse about! Popular Post Ivan Ivanstein
Anyway, after leaving Green Apple I worked for Bonhams Auctioneers for quite a few years. I started in the Rare Books & Manuscripts department and then became the Director of Fine Writing Instruments. It was a fun gig and involved lots of international travel, but what I really wanted was to return to selling comics. Bonhams had no interest in letting me start a comics department, as they felt comics didn't match their branding. So I left Bonhams and now I'm Director of Comics for PBA Galleries in the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm putting together our debut comics auction, featuring (you guessed it!) EC, Mad, Pre-Code Horror and Undergrounds! The sale will be on February 13th, 2020. We already have some tasty tidbits for the sale, and we're seeking additional consignments! If anyone has material to consign, please let me know. Larryw7, Marty Mann, Raze and 2 others

I bought the later one and got this one by mistake. The Crypt 39 was graded fair-good because of a detached cover. I opened it up and it was water stained, rusty staples and MOLD! Not noted in description, nor shown in the photos. Some might call this “fair”, I call it disgusting and unacceptable. I bought these from a well known and respected seller that I have bought from several times in the past. I won’t put anybody because I am sure it will get taken care of. Just VERY disappointed and now have to deal with it because someone’s sloppyness. I’m not a big high grade buyer but this is an on going problem I have had with the bay in the past couple of years. When you have to return 25-30% of your purchases because of things like this, maybe it’s time to rethink where I get my books from. I thought I had mitigated it by buying from better sellers. In order to get my bids, a seller needs to provide a full description, including interior photos and have a solid return policy or I simply won’t go there. Very few people are “professional graders” but we all have eyes and are capable of describing and showing what our eyes see. Sorry for the rant... With you on that Bob. I can count on one hand the number of books I sent back to eBay sellers from 2008 - 2017 but I've sent back about 25% of my purchases in the past year, and should have sent back a couple of others. I'm not quite sure what's going on - I used to have a pretty good eye for it.
