The reason why Box Office Mojo doesn't offer a worldwide box office (adjusted) is because movies throughout the decades didn't have an international release. It was so minor, it didn't matter to studios. Now, and for the past ten years, the International Box Office is where the massive is taking place. These figures are billions.

 

 

It makes it tough to truly compare movies throughout the decades because the revenue opportunity has substantially increased in modern times. But if we compared at least DC and Marvel worldwide totals, using 2016 inflated USD, here are the top 20.

 

 

I can't believe that turd in Age of Ultron is still #2 on the list.

 

Does it say something about the quality of our hobby movies when even Thor: The Dark World can make it into the Top 20 after over 74 movies since 1978?

The runaway monster called 'Deadpool' is catching up to 'Batman (1989)' as the DC-Marvel superhero movie to generate the highest revenue.

Deadpool is now the # 1 movie in the whole X-Men franchise domestically, even on inflation-adjusted terms.

 

He's beaten every X-Men, Captain America, Thor & Hulk film on that basis.

One of my concerns is now studios may balance against that, reminding themselves 'look at all that money Deadpool made for such a low budget. we can do that too!'

Deadpool is an easier film to do on a low budget seeing as it is essentially an action flick with a character that heals/doesn't die. No fancy super-powers or flying that requires CGI = low cost to produce.
