FYI - Best Artists Ever... Ever

you can really see the age difference amongst posters by their choice of artists.

No.

You really can see the lack of critical tools nowadays people suffer, being unable to judge what a good artist is. Not a "pleasant" artist, a good artist.

A single example: Frank Quitely.

Eisner, Foster, Caniff, Cole, Raymond... they had proper artists back in those days. :preach:

No. Eye of the beholder...opinions. Too many "older" folks don't give enough credit to some of the newer talented artists (and vice versa). It goes both ways.

I don't recognize any of these names!

Did they do art for those two Charmin publishers? If so, I probably flushed them.

THE Age of Comics - IMAGE 1992-Present :sumo:

...

I'm bored at work, I just wanted to stir something up for fun :)

I do agree it's neat to see over the years who people like and which books they collect.

Many 3X and younger do collect the older ages, but I committed myself to this small piece of early 90s. (Which everyone hates ... except me)

I partially agree with my fellow Cane on this. It's like with music. I grew up listening to late 70s to early 90s rock, but the bulk of the most dominant bands, guitar gods and clasic rock albums (late 60s to mid 70s) that I appreciate most clearly were before my time. The list of artists I came up with are a mix of what for me were then-"modern" artists (now late Bronze and early Copper Age) plus some Gold, Silver and Bronze Age greats. Frazetta (before my time), Kirby (mostly before my time), Raboy (before my time), Kane (mostly before my time), Byrne, Miller, Kubert, Adams, MacFarlane -- these guys are the equivalent of "guitar gods" in the world of comic book pencilers. They aren't just great technical pencillers, they could also story-tell with pictures alone so effectively; create timeless characters; and influence so many artists after them.

I look at the work of modern artists and the art of story-telling is mostly lost, sacrified for multiple splash or semi-splash pages in a single story so that the artist can (quite understandably) make more income in the OA market. There are exceptions: Frank Quietley and Gary Frank come to mind.

Congrats.

You've managed to name a grand total of ONE master, five halfway decent artists, three rather uninspiring pencillers...and three utterly abysmal, talent-deprived simpletons.

As Definitive Lists go...this one went. :baiting:
