Ok. So I  originally sent 4 books to the Terry Austin signing of those 3 had to make a return trip.  I just got those back today. You can see the full story here.

I have 2 problems with these that just returned.  First the reason all 3 have to go back.  Puddling. 20220512_182454.thumb.jpg.646d6f8da15296bd014a3e10b574dd19.jpg20220512_182426.thumb.jpg.6eb7b9119e3e3cc6f327a1e2b676cd6e.jpg

First of all if this book had happend any other time I might have deferred to CGCs opinion, shrugged and said maybe I missed it (although I seriously doubt it had staples that looked untouched, all tight and had similar cover debris / discoloration as well as the cut of the covers.)

Raw. Prior to clean / press / signing

So this book . I sent the first time for a press, clean, and signing.  CCS did clean the outside cover , but best I can figure they (Like CGC ) didn't even open it the first time [they missed the double cover] and just pressed it.

1st time received back.

Instead what I believe happened is that CCS cleaned only the outside cover then humidity/ press which now has caused the internal cover to look worse and when CGC got this back on its second trip they jump to married as the explanation of a lower grade cover inside.  plus the insert?!?!

Scans just now.

It will have to go back yet again for a review as I think some new grader got his mits on this and just didn't know what he was looking at and said married.

+1

Also some of these "bubble" or curvature deformations can leave impressions on books. Which has been known a puddling.

I really hope they fix this!  That’s terrible!

You’re not the only one, for sure.  That’s why I stopped submitting stuff.  I don’t trust the ‘product’ anymore.

Ditto

I sent in around 100 books in the past year, I easily have 50 more I'd like to, but not going to

I get it now.  You've taken a lot of time and effort to get the books signed, and prepared for CGC, and they return encapsulated looking like oversized ashtrays.   Not the best day at the office.

Yellow label but no signature.

I thought this had something to do with the custom Perez design only being made on the yellow labels. I guess they'd rather use the labels than just reprint blue ones when the signing got cancelled. (shrug)

I got mine back in a blue custom GP label. I think this is just another daily CGC blunder/QC issue that apparently no one at the company cares about anymore. I’m sure the cookie cutter announcement we will get “soon” will fix things. I have a ton of books I want to get graded but I’m not even going to entertain the thought anymore. My biggest fear when I used to send books in was USPS losing or damaging books.  Now that fear is on the company that is supposed to protect the books.

This right here

I'm worried that 2020 to 2022 will have the market name this period of CGC grading as "garbage" instead of loose or strict

I haven't looked at this book for a while, I was taking some pictures of the run and did a double take. I think the book was graded in 2017, I bought it slabbed. The artist is Woggins, I have no idea who John Lucas is, but he was not a Katy Keene artist that I can recall and the date should be 1954 not, 1986
