Comprehensive List of DC Universe Logo UPC Variants

cpt kirk, what are your other 'suspicions?' apart from maybe WW94?

I'm fairly confident that almost all the other DC Universe variants on your new list actually do exist. I also think a person would go a little batty if they tried to find all these DCUs. My other suspicion is that there aren't a whole lot of collectors who are trying to collect all these. I know a few die-hard Batman collectors who try to find all variants, but that's about it. That is, except for Jerome, who has found just about all of them.

Please note again the bounty I posted earlier on this thread for the few DCU's that I'm still trying to find. Heck, they are probably laying around in your sister's closet from since the time she bought packs from Toys-R-Us to get those Looney Tunes and Batman Adventures comic books!

Someone just contacted me and they found a Justice League 95 DCU for me. My bounty still stands for anyone who can get me a DC Universe variant of Action 706 and Adv of Superman 530 ($100 for each). Also offering $50 for DCU variants of Superman 95, 98 and 117; Superman Man of Steel 42 and 49 and Justice League 86. Please send me a PM if you are willing to part with any of those DC Universe variants.

I borrowed this quote from a post in the modern thread on these variants, and I thought it would be better placed here.

Here's a photo of the printed DC Universe emblem on Detective 690.

Also, this photo also shows two different versions of Superman 104; one has a sticker just like your TEC 690 and the other has a printed DC Universe emblem.

This sticker thing intrigues me, and I have one of my own to see if anyone would know anything about it. I found this Batman #414 on eBay, and thought it looked like a Bullet sticker over the bar code, which is exactly what it is (just received the actual book in the mail today). This book seems a bit old to have been dragged into the "Bullet era" we've been talking about. Does anyone else have examples of these bullet stickers?

Yes, I know exactly where the DC Bullet sticker on your Batman 414 came from. It is from a 3-pack. I had that pack and it contained Batman 414, 415 and 416 with DC bullet stickers on them. See attached photos If you look at the bottom of indicia on your Batman 414, you will see that it says "third printing c 1989 DC comics". My theory is that they created those third printings but for some reason kept the bar code in the UPC box on the comic book. After they printed up those comic books, they must have realized "Oh snap! ... when we put these 3rd printings in the multipack, a clerk might scan the comic book UPC sticker to ring up the price of the pack!" (The pack was more expensive the price of the single comic book.). So they printed those DC bullets to cover up the bar code on each comic book. Now if we could only find the poor sap that had to slap all those stickers on the comic books to confirm that is what really happened!

p><p> <img src=[/img]

The unopened pack is very hard to find. I traded mine to a dear friend who is trying to collect every version of those multipacks. However, issues of Batman 414, 415 and 416 with the bullet sticker aren't too terribly hard to find.

Besides the DCU stickers and the DC bullet stickers shown above, the only other stickers on Batman and Superman titles that I've ever seen were on newsstand issues. The stickers were usually placed over the UPC when the newsstand issue had a typo on the UPC, so the stickers were placed over the newsstand UPC to correct the error (rather than to reprint the cover entirely). I will be making up a posting in the near future to show some of those newsstand nuances.

I noticed Adventures of Superman #513 wasn't on the list. I just picked up this copy in a 20 pack.

Adventures%20of%20Superman%20513_zpsxf0syq5m.jpg

Nice! That one had been on the list but got removed, I think mistakenly. Cpt Kirk mentioned Batman #513 as probably not existing, and I think this book got removed instead. Great to see a copy!

Whoops my bad. Corrections will be made this week. I don't have access to my computer currently. I had adventures 513 at some point too, maybe I still do.

updated both lists.

wasn't sure how to treat dc sticker upc.

but I think we're pretty close to having everything, right?

now its up to you to catch'em all like pokemons.

wasn't sure how to treat dc sticker upc.

That's a good question. I'm not sure that we need a list in the case of DCUs as long as there aren't any books that are sticker only. I think they're neat, but I don't know that the list needs to be edited for these.

I wouldn't mind having a list of the DC bullet sticker issues, like the ones discussed on the last page after my eBay find. I do find these interesting, and would like to know which books to look for. I'd guess the list is fairly short, but it'd be nice to have a handle on it.

The only stickered DC Universe variants I've seen are Superman 104 and Detective 690. I have both stickered and printed versions of those two DCUs.

Now we will really get into the weeds: I do know of other stickered DC comics as follows:

1. Batman 414/415/416 each have a bullet sticker (seen above)

2. A few newsstand issues (Action 759, Detective 802, Superman 677, Batman 582) have stickers to cover up errors on the originally printed bar code.

3. Action 714 has a version with a "Compliments of Target" sticker on it. Looks like it was given away at a Target store.

4. Superman 75 (1987 series) has a newsstand sticker placed on the 2nd printing so that copies of the 2nd printing could be sent to newsstands.

I'm planning to do a posting to illustrate these stickered comics.

I just ran across this thread. Your master list is fairly close to mine.

I am, I hope, sending it to you by PM.

The Dec 93 "brick" of 20 issues had the DC bullet in the UPC box and

the October 1994 "brick" had the "target" symbol in the UPC box.

The "Bricks from Jan 94 to Nov 94 had 20 issues. Most had "DC Universe"

in the UPC box but some would have a "bat symbol," or a "Star Trek symbol"

instead.

Later on DC would publish a boxed set of 4 - 9 issues containing a story

arc. Typically these would have "DC Universe" in the UPC box. In

1996, they switched from boxed sets to trade paperbacks.

Your list added 4 items I did not know about. Two (SM 106 and WW 106)

are pictured. The other two (Impulse 10 and Superboy 24 are ones

I would like to get confirmation as to "do they exist?"

I have two other items that I question the existence of:

Flash 94 and Wonder Woman 92.

My list shows that I am missing 23 + the 2 questionable items

mentioned above. Earlier, there were other questionable

items on my list. Since they were not on your list, I removed

them from mine.

My current counts of these variants are:

DC Universe - 502 (477 have, 23 missing, 2 questionable)

Target - 25

Bat - 16

DC Bullet -22

Star Trek - 16

Warner's - 4

Superman - 1

Batman & Robin - 1

Carmen Sandiego - 1

Have fun

thanks, i've recieved your pm.

I'll check yours against the current list. also, while they are interesting, I think we're going to ignore the bat-symbol/star trek symbol/etc. for the purposes of these lists. its already a lot to handle, haha.

also, i think i meant to take off flash 94. i think it was already questioned by someone else? If someone either has one, please post it, or if they can remind me why I didn't remove it, that'd be helpful too.

wonder woman 92, i can't remember when or why it was added, but I'll check on it.
