Why or how were these released by DC? Combo packs ?

Are any of them harder to find then others? I am guessing the Flash is the most $$ due to Impulse.

Yes, they were released in a variety of different types of combo/reader packs. Some were in large 20 ct "bricks" distributed through big box stores, others were in smaller collections (shrinkwrapped 2-3 book sets or larger boxed reader runs).

We haven't really delved into any sort of scarcity index on these, but some are fairly easy and some are fairly difficult. Seems to be that the 1994 variants are generally easier to come by than the 1996 books.

I've had some good luck lately with some of the cartoon books...

 Is it too much to ask that if a seller shows a DCU book as the image in their listing that that is the book they actually ship? Three times in the last month I've gotten a plain barcode in the mail after buying a book that was pictured with a DCU. It's gotten so that I have to double check with the seller when I pay to make sure they haven't snagged a scan of a DCU to sell a regular edition.

I had a good day of hitting a number of shops in the Midwest.

Sorry if the picture is sideways or something, I took it on my iPhone and sometimes they flip around...

One other book I picked up was kind of interesting. It was my first sticker book, and I can't recall if any Green Lantern books had been previously known to have stickers. I just remember Batman and maybe Superman books. Anyway, here it is.

great find on the stickered green lantern. the only other ones we know of are Superman 104 and Detective 690. It is interesting to note that none of those 3 stickered books are from the same month/year.

Thanks! :acclaim:

Has anyone yet put together a list of which bricks/sets yield which DCUs? That interests me, and it seems like that would help with some kind of rarity factor chart on these variants.

Yes, we have such a list. I've been keeping track and with the help of some friends, we have confirmation that 20-pack "bricks" can be found for each and every month from Dec 1992 thru Nov 1994 with one exception: we have not seen one for March 1994. Also, there's a 10-pack brick for Jun 1995 issues. Starting in Nov 1993, the top 4 issues showing thru the plastic on the brick had a DC Bullet symbol in the UPC box. In Dec 1993, all 20 issues in the pack had the DC Bullet symbol in the UPC box. Starting in Jan 1994, all the issues in the packs had DC Universe in the UPC box (except for Oct 1994 zero hour issues, which had the zero hour symbol)

Kirk

The few times I've looked at my LCS for the DCU variants before I've struck out. Today I had a pretty decent list of back issue fillers I needed to search for for other runs/projects... and of course while doing so I came across these three!

Other than thinking they're really cool (especially that Flash #100 with the red logo) I don't collect these, so anyone who wants/needs them, hit me up and I'm sure we can work something out!

Greetings,

I know many of us are completionists. I've compiled a list of KNOWN DCUniverse Logo UPC Variants. These are comics with the DCUniverse written in the UPC box. They were typically sold in multi-packs, as far as I know.

They're tough to find in high grade, and there are some that are part of popular collectors sets, such as the Death and Life of Superman, and the Knightsend/Knightquest/Knightfall series.

Here's the known list (at least known to me)

I'm guessing there's a few more, especially where there's some obvious gaps, so if you ARE SURE (with picture/scan proof preferably) of any others you know about, post in this thread and I'll update the list every so often.

I'll toss out a few examples in the next post so you know what you're looking for.

Marvel vs DC 1-4....hmph, I know for certain that I have some of these variants, stashed away.Figured they may have been something so I kept them.

Gotta wonder if GPA reflects sales of these variants? I'll have a look see....

I stashed a raw candidate 9.8 (newsstand) set to be graded later, gotta wonder if the logo variants are even better....

well cgc doesn't seem to distinguish, so I doubt GPA does.

But as these generally came in tight shrink wrap sandwiches, most are pretty tough to find in 9.8. So for the right buyer I would think you could get a bit of a premium, how much is unclear.

I would THINK that those completionists who want super complete sets of Knightend/Quest and some of the Death/Resurrection of Superman would be interested in getting these. At least for those who are interested enough to get both direct and newsstand issues.

Stuff like this takes time. If enough people get interested in these upc variants, they will be separated eventually. Its a question of if it will stick. These types of sets along with the multiple printing sets of Death of superman, knightfall and so on, are the copper/modern age "cent" variants basically.
