A comic book collector uses his cherished collection to buy one of the oldest comic shops in Los Angeles. Eddie DeAngelini has been a huge fan of Spider-Man since he was a kid and spent four decades putting together a complete collection of the wall-crawler including a CGC-certified 1.0 Amazing Fantasy #15. But when DeAngelini was offered a chance to be part owner of Hi De Ho Comics in Santa Monica, he decided to put that collection up for auction to become a comic shop owner.

His collection, which also includes Amazing Spider-Man #1 GD-, #13 VF-, #9 F/VF, #3 FN, #4 VG/F and hundreds more, will be auctioned off by ComicConnect in New York City on January 12th. The collection is expected to bring in tens of thousands of dollars.

Hi De Ho Comics is located at 1431 Lincoln Boulevard in Santa Monica.

It's kind of a neat story. Man sells his cherished comics to buy a business selling what he loves.

I can't help thinking that a variation of this story has happened a thousand times - gets involved in a comic business and uses his comics to finance it or uses his comics as start up inventory.

Do we know why the store was being sold in the first place?

The owners weren't able to afford to buy a complete run of Spider-Man to resell.

Let's hope they stay in business. Do we know why the store was being sold in the first place?

Exactly. man sells cherished collection for ticket to bankruptcy court.

Good luck to this guy. It looks like he might be going into business with Geoffrey's Comics. On Hi De Ho's website, Geoffrey's is listed as the new owner of the shop. These guys have been around forever and were my LCS when I lived in Torrance, CA as a kid. This guy is going to have a real shot if going into business with Geoffrey's, they know how its done.

I wish the guy all the best! What struck me as a bit odd, though was how the article tried to make out his collection to be something great when the list of it kinda seems like a pretty typical sales thread here in the Gold/Silver/Bronze forum.

And hey, if the store doesn't work out, he can probably use the cash he raises from the sale of his books to get his wife some breast implants. I hear that's a thing now.

Wish I had the balls to do it- not in buying a comic shop but to sell everything off and then pursue something with less aggravation.

As I am up on a Saturday doing paperwork...

Yay...

I wonder why he didn`t just want to have an internet shop, instead of an LCS?

This tells me that LCS are making a lot more money then they let on, especially in big cities.

Every time I talk to an LCS owner they complain about how their sales are down, as they drive off in their nice cars. lol

I am pretty sure the vast amount of LCS owners in big cities have net worth's of at least a million on paper, and as not as poor as they complain to be. ;)

So good for this guy, as he will probably make all his money back, plus profit in 5 to 10 years fulfilling his dream! (thumbs u
