The "My Favorite Piece From Your Collection" Game!

184 posts in this topic

Well, as much as I enjoy reading endless speculations of art values, scam artists, and complaints of one kind or another about the hobby, it's become some rather predictably dry stuff around here. I thought comic art collecting was supposed to be fun?

So, in that effort, I thought I start an enjoyable little game that most of us can play, since I'm such a fun guy and all (Hey! Don't you roll your eyes at that comment! I AM a fun kind of guy, dammit! :pullhair: ). The way works is like this:

Since most of us have CAF gallery's the first person to post will leave a link to their gallery (which I guess would be me in this case). After that, the first person to read the pervious post, will go to their gallery, look at their personal collection and pick out what piece they like best in it. They'll post a link to it here and say why they like it, then leave a link to their gallery at the end. The next person to read their post will repeat the process with their gallery, and thus will things continue on and on.

It'll be a fun little exercise is seeing what some of us around here think is some of the best pieces others have. Should be a lot of fun. So, I guess I'll get the ball rolling and link my gallery. Can't wait to see what someone picks. :)

I'm game.

My current favorite from your gallery is this beautiful Gil Kane cover

from the "old" Batman: Legends Of The Dark Knight title:

Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #26 Cover

I have a nostalgic attachment to this cover, as this was the first or second

issue to arrive from my very first actual subscription to a comicbook.

Aside from the personal note, it's pure Gil Kane, with strong anatomy,

interesting machines and a powerful (if literal) pose.

My gallery can be found here:

Gal's CAF gallery

Looking forward to see what will be picked from mine.

Cheers,

Gal

The piece I like best in Gal's collection is Action #700. Just a dynamic cover that as he mentions has been reused and recreated quite a few times now. A very good get.

I know the obvious choice would be one of the killer Preacher pages, but this super-quiet moment in Y: The Last Man where 355 trades in her gun...the lines are so clean, that first panel with nothing but a contemplative moment, and then BAM the bad- agent is checking out and the woman is checking in. Its really a powerful page after such a long journey and one of my favorites, especially difficult after looking at the SoK page!

The Wrightson is awesome of course, but I have to say I dig this Grell Longbow Hunters cover. From the vibrant colors to the subtle painting of the skin tones, Grell killed this one. I am not a huge Mike Grell fan but these books were big at the time and this is a great painted cover.

I've literally changed my mind five times, so I'll post this one. It hangs Ina prominent place in the house, so I see it often and she always brings a smile to my face.

When I bought Sally from Adam Hughes, I had never spent that much on a piece of art. But once I got her in the mail, I have never regretted the decision. It's an absolutely beautiful example of Adam's work and it will never leave my wall.

No, no, no... you don't pick your favorite piece from YOUR collection. You pick your favorite piece from the last person who's posted collection (which would be Bird in this case).

Oh, and Bird, you failed to link your gallery in your post, so you didn't quite play by the rules, either. (tsk)

Hmmm, it doesn't seem to show for me. I can see the others, but not yours. (shrug)

Oh, there it is. That was weird. A glitch in the system, I hope. I don't need the expense of getting a new comp. :tonofbricks:

Ok - back on track now. This was an easy one ... Because it used to hang on my wall. ;-)

There are several nice Tony Harris pieces in the gallery, but there's just something about this one that I've always loved. So much attitude.

Well, this was an easy choice:

Kaare Andrews Hulk #49 Cover

Andrews' Hulk covers were a refreshing change of pace from the mostly boring, generic covers that dominated the 2000s, and Bruce Jones' stories from the series were one of the major highlights from the decade for me. The "homage" covers in particular were great, and this was one of the best of them! And, as a big fan of "Where the Wild Things Are" as a child, this one hits all the right buttons. :applause:

Well, I'm mostly a Marvel guy, but there's a reason this page is the most viewed and commented piece in Bill's collection:

Flash #147, page 1

A true piece of brilliance by the late Carmine Infantino and a great introduction to a team-up by two of the most diabolical Flash villains.
