The "My Favorite Piece From Your Collection" Game!

Have had well over 100 pieces at one point before the shift to American Illustration art, but with what remains I have a hard time choosing a "favorite" but this one always has a soft spot in my heart...

I think you missed the point, which was to pick out something from the previous commenter's gallery. By way of righting the ship, I'll pick from both.

Terry's Captain Atom 80 cover is a long-time favorite of mine on all of CAF. Love this guy's inks on Ditko!

As far as your gallery goes, you have a freaking Arisman! (worship)

Dang! Need new glasses! Sorry for the mix up so I'll re-right the ship...

You made it easy for me with Ms. Marvel Cockrum. When I had a HUGE Bronze age Ms. Marvel art collection, I would've tried to pry it from you! (Maybe I tried, can't remember)

Thanks for the Kudos on the Arisman!

Roger,

You have a wonderful collection full of visual treats. That said, this page makes me smile. Maybe the best panel Dillen / Sid Greene ever did in the lower right hand side. Of course, you know that I feel that way. :)

No contest here - have always liked that McDonnell "Mutts" commission that you got wonderfully colored by Laura Martin:

It's simple, beautiful and I'm sure displays wonderfully in your home!

Well, Gene, out of all the great stuff you have (and there is a lot), I had to go with this piece. There are lots of great images out there, but few that you can say are iconic and historic, as this one is. Plus, I love Sutton's work.

Yeah, Gene, it's pretty cool and looks great on the wall. It was pure dumb luck that we were at the Heroes Con Drink and Draw and that there were relatively few bidders. We got it cheap.

Interesting to see what people find interesting in collections.

I tend to not like recreations but that Miller is tops:

Jeez, you have a lot of amazing pieces. Tough to pick a favorite, really tough.

I love this marvelous Norman Saunders cover. His art is so distinctive and beautiful and this is an amazing example. I want to jump into the page and rescue the babe.

This is my third comment in this thread. In no way do I think my small CAF is worthy of multiple looks, just trying to keep this thread alive.

Nice collection! It might be "small" but it's twice as big as mine, so size is relative. :)

Despite you having a Kirby page (very cool), and even though this isn't his early work which normally I love... The above Sal Buscema page is beautiful! Love the Torch flying about the page like that! As, from your name, I image you're fond of as well! Great stuff!

from your gallery. George doesn't get the credit he's due (like so many others - Dillen, Heck, and so on), but he told a good story. This commission does a nice job of showing of his style and breadth of characters that flowed from his pencil.

BTW, he's "my" Iron Man artist. He did a commission for me in June of 2009, just months before his passing at the age of 93. I hope I'm still able to read a comic much less draw something at that age. His wife was a delight, too.

Thanks for the kind words Frank.

I'm surprised nobody has noticed my Dale Eaglesham Hulk cover which is my favorite piece after the Kirby page. I think he only did a few Hulk covers but they're all amazing.

Since Alex took a second turn in this game (and I think James did three),

I figured I'll take another one myself. Alex was also the one who'd picked

from my gallery, so it'd be cool to pick from his.

My new, current favorite from Alex's gallery is the beautiful FALLEN ANGEL

painted commission by Woodward:

I've only read the series in it's "Supergirl form", but if something convinced

me to try the other volumes, it's this fantastic painting !

Really inspiring !

JK is a commission machine. Watch his Facebook page to see what he produces. It's amazing.

I think this particular piece (from a Kickstarter that I have not yet received) would be a great cover for a Fallen Angel Omnibus. I really enjoyed that series and got to meet Peter David at Comicpalooza. Wasn't smart enough to show him the piece though - duh! What was I (not) thinking! Sigh...

Just a thought here, but could one of the moderates here make this post a "sticky?" That way people can play when they want and not worry about it disappearing off the front page. Just an idea. Carry on with the game, folks. :)

Glad you like it too! I really have wanted to focus on published pieces, but when I saw this I just loved it. I agree that George doesn't get his due as a staple of so many Marvel books in the 60's and 70's, and especially for his work on Iron Man. It was the Iron Man and Hawkeye especially that sold me on this piece.
