With that in mind (and because these are both low grade books) I might buy both and swap out the interiors.

The under copy would now be the brittle pages with the missing piece cover. I'd put that up at auction and try to get as much out of it as I could (hopefully $1300-$1500) . . .

I'm going to join the neither group because I wouldn't spend $1900 on either book;) If it was free, I'd take the one with the missing piece. The brittle one could have gotten worse while in the slab and one day I'd be shaking $1900 worth of little tiny pieces in a plastic case;)

If these are the only 2 USA 7s left on the planet and I can't crack either of them, then I am taking the 1.8. Then I'd do an Ameri "mylar trick" by making a form fit color copy of that lower right missing piece and tape it to the outside of the slab. That would help a "little" with the eye sore missing piece.

I would be more inclined to check it if was slightly brittle as opposed to brittle.

I like the 1.5. It shouldn't deteriorate much more in our life time.

 

The cover is what makes this book, I'm surprised the 1.8 sold for that much. Maybe someone wanted the inside.

I don't regret buying my brittle USA 8 last year. I don't think I've even seen one for sale since.

 

If the cover was flaking then I don't think I'd buy it. And if it was that bad they would've given it a .5 like my cap #7.
