D_ck Tracy had a few pretty violent covers that seemed more tame than they are due to Gould's cartoony style (or whoever did the covers in the Gould style). I love the way Gould drew the strip, especially the villains, but I don't see daily newspapers as content to show some of gruesome deaths in the strip on the funny pages if they are drawn by someone like Johnny Craig.
