It was not as good as Marvels most recent outings of Black Panther, Infinity War and Homecoming. However, it IS a good movie. Don't forget that just because it is not better than the last installment of the franchise does not make it a bad movie. As I stated to someone on the almighty Facebook, it was quite enjoyable. piper
Solid origin film done Marvel style. It was fun and definitely worth a watch or two. I plan to see it in the theatres one more time. Don't forget that just because it is not better than the last installment of the franchise does not make it a bad movie. As I stated to someone on the almighty Facebook, it was quite enjoyable. For anyone (like myself) that watched the trailer and thought "oh dear, Brie Larson's acting seems so stiff", you've got nothing to worry about. Whether it's the writing, directing, or the acting, there's enough there that makes Carol Danvers an enjoyable character. I went in with no expectations (I think all the negging by the DC fan boys and the people hating on the women empowerment aspect did that), so the movie exceeded my expectations. If you're expecting "the best Marvel movie", I think you need to pare down your expectations. Captain Marvel is just a fun movie to kick back and enjoy the fact that we have yet another Marvel character largely done right. Honestly, as a comic geek, we should all be enjoying this comic character renaissance that is occurring on the big screen. For an origin story though, there is a little lack of character building. We get enough of Carol's background, but I really expected more from the surrounding cast. There are other things to nit pick, but I fear it might spoil it. But I fully agree with @Buzzetta, it's a good movie and a worthy addition to the MCU universe. Also, it left me wanting a Silver Surfer movie soooo much more. Some spoiler notes below... Spoiler I really liked what they did with the Skrull. They started off feeling like Romulans from Star Trek, but I like that they flipped the -script and made them the race that we're supposed to care more about. I suppose I should have seen it coming since the stories I've read, the Kree aren't exactly the nicest galactic empire out there. On the flipside, I didn't like that the Kree troopers were essentially this nameless group that we really don't care about. I also took issue with how Fury is presented here. He's far too green around the ears when I feel like at this point in his career, he should already be a seasoned bad . And I absolutely HATE how Fury loses his eye. I could have sworn in a previous movie he alludes that he lost it in a manner that was more personal, like while supporting someone that he trusted. Lastly, I really wanted more Phil Coulson. Definitely not Guardians 1 or Avengers 1or 3. But its definitely not the worst MCU movie either. I thought Brie Larson was good in the role. Not an oscar performance but that doesn't matter to me. Jude Law was great as Yon Rogg. There's a nice tribute to Stan at the beginning during the Marvel Studios logo which everyone clapped for at my viewing. Wait, is that 3.5 out of 4, or 3.5 out of 5? Bosco685
Out of a 10.0 system Chinese audiences are rating this above average. That's a good thing for word-of-mouth marketing. ComicConnoisseur

Gatsby77
The forecaster at BoxOfficeMojo is now predicting a $155M+ opening weekend. Gatsby77
Put another way, if Captain Marvel hits $155M, that's more than the opening weekends of Thor and Captain America combined, even after adjusting for inflation. Goes to show how far Disney has come with the MCU. Chaos_in_Canada

It can also demonstrate how formulaic fan reaction is as well. A number of fans have been posting how this is the greatest MCU yet, and especially due to it being female-led. Civil War greatest superhero movie ever Black Panther greatest superhero movie ever Infinity War greatest superhero movie ever It really is okay to categorize these as 'solid comic book productions' rather than everything having to be $1B or 'greatest ever'. Unfortunately, with these cross-studio flare-ups from excessive fans their assumption is someone must be the best.
Ken Aldred
As I like most of Marvel's cosmic- and science-fiction storylines and characters, I'm hoping to be able to appreciate this one more than has already been suggested by the online reviews elsewhere. @therealsilvermane
I loved Captain Marvel, and not saying that just because I'm a fan and am heavily invested in CGC graded copies of her comics and some original art. The packed theater applauded. The six people I brought with me, kids and adults, loved it. My nephew now prefers Captain Marvel over Spider-Man, he said. And Skrulls rock. From the various reviews it sounds like as a 'villain' the Skrulls really went over strongly. That is so cool after all these decades of these characters being in TV and film limbo. I wonder if this can later on lead to the Super Skrull? ComicConnoisseur and piper
