Fantastic comics 3

100 posts in this topic

Metro must have 20 copies of this book now, or about half of all remaining. They've been hoarding them since the 1990s. They will sell none. POS. Utterly ridiculous, for a comic "dealer". Anybody know the story of what's really going on with that?

Fishler is also a collector. It's his favorite comic.

Which has always made me wonder, what else he and Vincent keep for their own collections. I mean it's possible that some of what passes through their office for co signment gets a straight out offer I would think. Movie posters are my second hobby after comics, and Fishlers Frankenstein poster is....MONSTER! (Ba dum bum!)

Vincent told me his favorite book is Amazing Adventures 11 which he hoards and also has the original cover art as well. I believe Fischler has (only!) 10 copies of Fantastic 3 but they are all nice.

Thanks for the info on Vincent. Wow, you never know. Would not have been my guess.

As for Fishler...only 10 copies of FC3? Slacker! :D

A decade ago I counted 13 low grade unattractive copies of Fantastic 3 in their office showcase.

Wow, i never counted them when they were on display at their old office. Maybe they let one or two go in 'private deals/trades'? Who knows what the official count is? All i know is, what an eye and great judgement on his part to jump in 'early'.

With this clipped coupon, any idea if CGC would simply now grade this out as an Incomplete 0.5 graded copy or would they do it justice and give it an appropriate Qualified grade. hm

Asking Steve what holder CGC would use on his book is kinda like asking a vegetarian if they prefer beef or pork.

:roflmao: True dat

When did Fantastic 3 break out and become a highly desirable book?

I don’t think it was anything special back in the old days.

Here’s a couple of pictures from a Boston convention in 1974.

A girl is reading Capt America 162 behind a booth in the Hotel Statler on 2/24/74.

Take a close look and you can see there is a Fantastic 3 on the wall!

What other books do you see?

Here’s another view and you can see the Fantastic 3 is the most expensive book on the wall priced at $22.

Maybe nobody has bought that book because it was greatly overpriced at $22 then! :D

Given how those books are fixed to the wall and how the other books around her are being stored gives an indication that condition was not necessarily driving the market in them thar days.

Is that the one somebody found in a locked trunk?

Yes, it is. Why don't things like that happen to me

There is a video segment on You Tube about it, name of show escapes me at the moment. It really is a thing of beauty.

Has there been any new information uncovered to identify which of the two printings of the comic are the first printing vs the second printing?

Never heard this before, anyone have any info?

Here are some photos of the two printings:

That is very interesting (thanks for the pics) - I wonder if the inside back covers are the same (Comic Scope ad)?

The Comic Scope ad is the same on both copies and so is the Johnson Smith back cover (same Dept #, etc...). I have the version with the cartoon mailbox interior ad (not the Daisy Rifle). Here's my head scratcher copy. It looks like two copies were combined to make one.

Thanks for the info, Frank (mine is the Daisy Rifle ad).

It's not unheard of for a GA book to have two printings, but I don't think I've ever heard of a Fox book being double-printed.

Very interesting!

You're welcome Steve!

So what is the consensus the Mystery Men 1 pedigree will go for and what the Fantastic 3 Church would bring. Alert! I own this #3 and am not shopping the book. Just curious since most of it "value" comes from the cover.......jb

Wouldn't make any sense for the fantastic 3 (church) to sell for any less than the suspense 3 (Penn). That sale set a certain paradigm, My two cents.

Mystery men 1 (Penn) feels like a 40-45k book.

Maybe, but great as Fantastic 3 is, Suspense 3 has just rocketed to a level that I don't think Fantastic 3 reaches. I can't see any copy of Fantastic 3 selling for $170K. But I've been wrong before! :D (Probably more often than I've been right ....)

I agree. Fantastic 3 is fantastic, however, I think Suspense #3 is on just about every collector's "short list". If given the choice, I would take the Suspense #3 ten times out of ten.

You're thinking about the average collector - the person who buys the fantastic 3 church is in the top .00001% of all collectors, has deep, deep pockets or so many books they could liquidate in exchange the price almost doesn't matter - all that matters is a perception they didn't grossly over pay (that might not even matter) and the suspense 3 sale sets the bar.
