As usual, I was there and saw Jamie Hernandez...

Great report Chuck. Unsurprisingly, you have great taste in comix AND babes.

Now, the question: am I reading that sign correctly, that Los Bros are still selling original copies (verified by them) of the original B&W Love & Rockets book, for what looks to be $100??? THe same one that people have been passing photocopies off on ebay for hundreds or thousands of dollars? And if so, did you buy the whole stack and run away screaming?

It's been nearly 20 years since I have been to SDCC. I got to talk to Los Bros back then as well, but they didn't have any pre-drawn pieces for sale and they DEFINITELY didn't have any of those 1st edition books. Man alive, super super super jealous right now.

Yes... I bought two last year and he had a few people buy multiple copies last year... he was very much aware of who was buying this year and limiting them to one per person.

They are the real deal - I made CGC is aware of them last year - as they don't have the stamp - these are VRIGIN copies, straight from Jamie's private stash.

The one I have left is a dead ringer for a 9.8 if I ever get around to slabbing it.

The more I think of it I think you where there when me and Hector and intoanother ( Kelly ) were in line. We're you there Thursday about noon Chuck ?

I didn't go back this year. :fear:

I have some Marvel original art from the 1970's and none of it has World Color on it.

The image above is a cover being sold on Romitaman.

That doesn't look like original art to me.

Edit: looks like they included the overlay...so I suppose it's possible that the same goes for that other art.

The World Color notation shows up on most '70s Marvel cover art (not on the interiors). There are some original covers that don't have the notation - I'm assuming those covers were statted and that the final production art would carry the notation (I have both the original and production art to one '70s Marvel cover and that is indeed the case).

Yep.

I've seen a lot of World Color Marvel covers - mostly early-mid '70s.

This cover is in ComicLink's August auction, right here:

From the desciption:

Note: The art is on vellum. The logo stat is original, as are the word balloons, but the issue number and month paste-up is a replacement. The art has been professionally cleaned and lightened and the vellum remounted archivally on the original board. This art has an image area of approximately 10in x 15in.

THEN... we're passing by the Heavy Metal booth and who do we see but Grant Morrison! Only 20 people in line, it seemed like an impromptu signing, so we jumped right in.

Me: Grant! Love your work, man! Ya know, one of my favorites still is that Vertigo one shot 'Kill Your Boyfriend', you did with Phillip Bond.

Grant: Oh yeah, oh yeah.

Me: I love Phillip's stuff, too. You need to give him some more work!

Grant: What's he doing these days?

Me: Besides selling me original art, not enough. that's what I'm saying.. give him a call!

Grant: (chuckling) Ok.ok.

Loved Invisibles, JLA, and New X-men runs. The guy is way underappreciated imo.

:o Wow!

:luhv:

I'm told that Neal owns the original, but that he brought a C-print of the art to the SDCC (not the original, which he believes is worth $1 million-plus).

Thank you for posting this report Chuck, as I live in the U.K I can only envy your devotion at photographing those lovey ladies. Some guys get all the luck! Here's a bit of a noob question, can you buy a ticket to the con if you arrive at the centre or must you have it in advance. It was the year of the (baseball) Bat, The Walking dead and the Suicide squad.

I believe that if Neal Adams asked 1 million for the original, he would get it. 2c
