Well... not quite done yet. But it IS still the same book - just flipped over. Don't like painted covers? Flip Eerie Adventures #1 and enjoy this Bernie Krigstein scene, then. There's your painted/not painted compromise. I think, much earlier in this thread, what the back cover of this issue looked like came up - so here it is. And here I go - to sleep! Will scan and post more as I can. I hope you all liked looking as much as I liked posting. And I promise to try and ramble... less. Not eliminate it entirely!

Excellent selection! - I agree that TMIH #13 has a better cover than #10.

I collect decap covers and have never gotten around to picking up #10 because the head looks so goofy ( though I have thrown out a few low ball bids on the book ).

These are the only two books I've purchased in the last two months. I would like to eventually have a complete set of the pre-code Frankenstein by Briefer. I don't care much for the humor issues, but the horror books of the fifties are great, with terrific covers. This one is reminiscent of a scene in the 1935 classic BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN.

On we go - here's one for Pov - his current icon source, Weird Mysteries #12. This guy went to the graveyard not to show off his new squeeze, but to find his old (or maybe a "new old") one! Yeecchhh, as MAD would say. To me, this is quite a bit more disturbing than MA #18 and the like, since it could well theoretically occur - as opposed to skeletons named Frank and their buddies jumping me from behind. Really great atmosphere, bizarre (of course) look in his eyes, and that dessicated corpse is truly - well - a DEAD thing. Really pretty frightening, no?

Thanks for all the great scans Originalbest! Love the books, and really enjoyed the commentary too - can't wait for you to post more. acclaim.gif

Doiby, those Frankensteins are quite effective, and addictive once you have a few - would be an awesome run to complete! Cover wise it's hard to choose between those two, let alone the other issues. Conditionally, the #24 is quite pleasing!

I personally prefer the cover to #24, but both are great. I got both books from Metro, nice strict grading on both.

Thanks guys! Bonds25, I thought in retrospect I was a bit wordy (well, that's 'cause I was), but I'm glad you liked! Thanks also pov - I will try and post more tonight. Doiby - I'm ashamed to say I don't own any Frankensteins!! All the horror ones have great covers tho - I will have to remedy my lack of any sometime soon.

I've plucked a few more out of a box to share tonight - and as good a place as any to start is one of the Adventures Into the Unknown 3-D issues. This one, #53, seems to show up more often than the others - but maybe that's just personal perception. The logo and 3-D blurb on these are one of the best parts. A nice depth of field effect here by Harry Lazarus, along with an appropriately modest vamp (nice undies!) and a dude on the wall who's screwed!

And here's Dark Mysteries #15. Of course the dialogue is the best part - nice how she's able to so calmly assess the situation! Don't ask me how Harry got the very pickaxe they killed him with (gruesome, but I was looking around for the hole) - maybe they buried him with it? How touching. Despite what Harry thinks, I'd bet they could squeeze in a smooch before he gets to 'em.

Keeping things in the Story comics family for one more, here's Mysterious Adventures #17. Great stuff but lest you think it's the scan that makes the devilish pastor so hard to see, not so! The comic's just printed that way. Despite this lack of say, a vivid red for the devil, it's really an enjoyable cover. That John's a take-charge kinda guy!

SPLOOSH! Goes Mister Mystery #8. It's not an acknowledged classic like #6, 11, 12 or 13 - but it is a pretty nice cover in its own right, certainly in the better half of all Mister Mystery covers. Nice stories inside as well - including Tony Mortarello's well-known "Rat-Trap!"

Prophetic reading material there, honey - "The Dead that Rise!"

As a comparison to This Mag is Haunted #13, here's #10. Well, it's a nice cover, but how much nicer it could've been, had the head fished out of the lake had a more menacing air - I do like the blue and the drippy colors, though. Also note the change in logo style from #10 vs. #13, both appeal to me.
