The Black Hand ®
Issue 4 I love this cover. That's not DeCarlo is it?
143ksk
I don't think it's DeCarlo. The face on Moronica reminds me a lot of Al Hartley's work, but...

Montezuma
I had been told at one time that it was an artist named Owen Fitzgerald. No idea how accurate that info is.
143ksk
Well, it at least sounds less like a guess than my comment In studying the art, I came to the inescapable conclusion that the farmer looks strikingly like his chickens
Scrooge
I had been told at one time that it was an artist named Owen Fitzgerald. No idea how accurate that info is. The thing that's been holding me back is the level of realism on the girl's face compared to other Fitzgerald work. It's an interesting artistic choice on his part if it's his cover. Here are some Fitzgerald's girls -
Apotheosis
While these are pretty cheap when you can find them they are really hard to find. I'd like to upgrade the #4. #1 is easy to find so it hasn't been a priority for me...

Montezuma
Nice, the only one I'd see before was #1 which has a pretty generic teen-ager / Jalopy cover. Now I need to put these on my want list'

Kakapo
Rogue prototype? I had no idea there were so many esoteric humour titles out there...never even heard of any of these before. It's nice to see something new!
shiverbones
never saw any of those sugar bowls before, didn't notice them in Gerber either. They are really odd looking!
lotemo
Just finished this run. Glad it's short, 'cause they're not too easy to find. Those are nice books! They are De Carlo aren't they? It's amazing how many "Archie" looking books there were back then. Since this series starts with #5, what was the title previously?
143ksk
Yes, at least the first 2 issues are by DeCarlo. There seems to be some controversy as to whether number 7 is by him... I'm not sure what the title was before it became Jetta. I assume it's in Overstreet and I suppose I should look it up.
lotemo
I should have mentioned, I looked in Overstreet and unless I just totally overlooked it, it didn't mention the previous title.

Similar to the way that Ziff-Davis started with 10.
