How long can someone edit a post in the FS section? I thought it was 3 days. I was visiting the coin FS section and noticed a post that was made on the 1st was edited today.

Last time I had a sale thread, I was able to edit the first post for two weeks...so I think that's what it's set at now.

Hypothically speaking if you saw a thread that was selling items and most of the items have already sold. The facts were out of whack for what they actually are would you say anything as the buyers seem happy?

Only if I knew for certain they could get the exact same comic for cheaper elsewhere. Then I might shoot off a nice PM.

I'm still a little new here, but let's say I did PM someone about overpaying for an item on the boards and as it turns out, the buyer backed out. Would that buyer be put on the probation list for backing out of the sale/changing their mind?

I think it would be bad form to pm someone out of the blue and tell them they paid to much for a book and point them to a link somewhere...

Im not sure this is the scenario that BrianR is describing... his scenario sounds more like a "seller lists items with some inaccuracies (lets say due to innocent ignorance), show I post information about the item to clear up the (assumedly) accidental mis-representation if deals have already started to be consummated?"

In that case I would PM the seller with the additional information and leave it to him/her use that information correctly.

And this is making an assumption that you know more than the seller, which might not be the case.

Here's a question: If you get in the way of a sales transaction (between two other people) can YOU be put on the probation list?

Think this is a fine question:

So your hypothetical scenario would be (since I have no idea what real post sparked this question):

I am selling a batch of Topps Desert Storm trading cards here on the boards and after selling off various cards (including the Norman Schwartzkof rookie card) you stumble across the sales thread and notice that these cards (which you were familiar with as a card collector in the 90s) have all the tale-tell signs of the counterfit versions that flooded the market at one point.

Do you:

A) post in the sales thread that these are likely the counterfeit version and are nearly worthless

B) PM the seller (me) telling me that these probably are the counterfeit version and I might want to pull the remaining items and do some more research regarding their authenticity.

C) PM the people that were buying in the thread and warn them of your fears

D) B plus C

E) Do nothing, let the buyer beware and be responsible for his or her own purchasing knowledge (hey maybe the counterfeit versions have some here to for unknown market)

And then what is the possible board-based repercussion for these various choices?

So are we just throwing the rule book out the window or are multiple sales threads in the same forum the new trend?

Depends... I thought the unwritten rule-of-thumb was no more than three threads at any time, and even then only if the items in each thread were sufficiently different from the other(s) as to warrant being on their own.

For example, selling a high-grade AF#15 in one thread and a bunch of junk SA/BA readers in a separate thread would be fine by me. However, selling three commonplace books in three different threads would be a waste of front-page real estate...

pretty sure there's been some policing of this in the last week (seem to remember a new user starting up three threads in short order to sell 1 book per thread).

Actually, I don't think that's ever been accepted practice (at least, I don't do it). I thought you were only supposed to have one sales thread per forum on the front page (i.e.: one modern thread, one mixed thread and one GA/SA/BA thread.

Once your thread drops off the front page, you could start another one. That's how I always thought it was supposed to work.

Multiple threads are allowed. Item #2 on Arch's usage rules states "Group your for sale items into as few threads as is reasonable." The problem is that the rules are a bit vague on what constitutes "few" and "reasonable".

I thought the last time this came up (which was a long time ago), the consensus was that "few" could mean as many as three, but only if the items were substantially different from one thread to the next. However, I may very well be wrong. Someone with a better memory than myself might want to chime in...

EDIT - You know, the more I think about it, the more I think that the last time this was an issue was before the "For Sale" forum was split into separate categories. I'm not sure whether that three thread rule-of-thumb would still apply now... Personally, I'd be okay with two threads in the same sub-forum under the right circumstances.
