I'm really loving the search for cool foreign editions.  For me, its all about finding cool covers not seen in the U.S.  Some are drawn by foreign artists.  Others are by notable US artists - usually internal repurposed panels (not redrawn) into covers like these:

I've already got fantastic covers by Barks (one of my favorite DD stories) and Foster that never appeared in the U.S.  Cool stuff!

I love that series. I now have all 20, though I'd like a better #1. The b&w printing works pretty well for Foster's work. Here's a splash panel I especially like.

Gibi Mensal No. 142 (GRAIL)

High Grade Beauty...

1st Appearance Submariner

Published by O Globo, Brazil 1940

The first published Timely Comic in Brazilian history and the oldest NON-US publishing of Submariner world-wide.

The cover art is Brazilian original and this comic was only available as a Journal insert and that is why the No.142 is on the comic.

The first year of Gibi Mensal was 1940 and the first 12 issues were all inserts and most ended up in the garbage after the newspaper was read that day.

Making these first 12 issues extremely rare and out of those 12 issues, the first appearances of the Submariner, Human Torch and Kazar were published at that time.

I can vouch that those Australian issues don't often turn up in VF! Great to see it here.

But - and correct me if I'm wrong - isn't Standard Comics a Canadian imprint?

You're probably thinking of Superior.

Yes, thank you. I'm putting that down to covid brain this week. And I hadn't seen an American Dennis the Menace that wasn't a Fawcett before.
