n2wdw
Alsatian Food A few days after Terry's con, I few to Germany for work. I took my wife with me as we've never toured Germany. So while I don't have anything comics to report, I'll talk about the food in Germany. The first part of our trip we actually stayed in Colmar, France, in the Alsace region. The food is heavily German influenced. One thing I've learned is they have pizzas they call flambe. It's essentially like a pizza, but on thin flatbread rather than pizza dough, and no tomato sauce. It's hard to find bourbon in Europe so I've been drinking scotch. Here in Alsace, food is inexpensive, but unfortunately the dollar is weak against the Euro right now (1 Euro = 1.25 US) so prices seem like Washington DC. After Colmar we went to Heidelberg, which is a college town in Germany. The food both here and in Alsace is hearty comfort food. Like, Schnitzel with garlic and a platter of sausages, mashed potatoes and gravy and sauerkraut (which were my dinner and lunch from last night and today). And from Alsace, I got this ham hock covered with cheese on top of a mound of sauerkraut. This was REALLY good. As I was eating this, my wife got the fish. I love the food here, but it always takes her a while to figure out what to get on the menu. Ricksneatstuff and jimjum12

My Grandpa was from Holland ..... what he missed most from their cuisine was the Muskrat Stew and the Smoked Eel ........... he was a cool old guy, pronounced my name as "Yimmie"..... and started my lifelong love of National Geographic Magazine. But I suppose they probably don't, just like we don't always eat Big Macs. I also love the food of Spain, along with Italy. As for the Netherlands, we were briefly in Amsterdam a couple years ago. The only notable meal was Rijsttafel with all those bowls of food surrounding the rice. Haven't been to China yet, hope to go someday.

Here are a couple of pictures of the Rijsttafel dinner in Amsterdam a couple years ago. I think Rijsttafel means something like "rice" in Dutch, and that's what the dinner is, rice accompanied by a number of dishes. The dishes in the pictures are just about half of what we got. n2wdw
By the way, since we're talking Amsterdam and food, here is a picture from breakfast at our hotel, the W. An easy over egg on top of steak on top of crunchy fries. They also had a buffet. So you order an entree from the menu (like the egg/steak/fries) and also pile on food from the buffet. So he's my plate from the buffet. Looking at the pictures brings back good memories! mikeyc67

n2wdw
Super Magician Tonight in Heidelberg Germany, my wife and I decided we needed Italian food for dinner. We ordered/shared carpaccio, pesto pasta, pasta with clams and grilled steak and veggies. After posting so much about travel and food, I feel I need to throw in some comic stuff. So, here's a title I've been collecting lately, Super Magician. I really like the cover art. Edited February 8, 2018 by n2wdw comicnoir
Ricksneatstuff
That meal looks spectacular Mike!! Here was my most interesting meal when I was in LA. I took 7 people out to The Bazaar by Jose Andres and we did it up. We added 5 courses more than the tasting menu even. Their Wagyu Philly Cheesesteaks are always great! This is one of my favorite places in LA. These were our pics from that night. Edited February 7, 2018 by Ricksneatstuff
