I'm curious when coloring with crayons overtook painting in these sorts of books. Wax crayons were already common by the time this book came out and would have been easier to use than paint (I would think).

Felix the Cat stories drawn by the greatly under appreciated Otto Messmer have amazing artwork.  Even though Pat Sullivan’s name is listed, Otto slaved away in obscurity.
