HI, All:

Just wanted to let you know that The Artist's Choice sale is now live here: http://www.theartistschoice.com/

Spencer apologizes for the delay in getting the sale up and running as he has been very ill for the past two months and wanted me to pass along this information to those interested.

Additionally, he has removed in excess of 1,000 previously sold pages from the website, which will hopefully alleviate some of the frustration folks have experienced in the past.

Sorry to hear that Spencer's been sick. We've had some similar battles in my house for the last month.

 I'm pleased he pulled all those sold pages. I'm interested in some of Dale Eaglesham's work, so I was happy to see the "sale" notice by his name...only to discover no discount being given. Ah, well.

His artists stable seems to have shrunk. 

 

I was waiting for the site to update before asking about some Andrea Di Vito pages and he's no longer listed. His page still turns up on Google, but it hasn't been updated since 2016. Oh well.

I sent one yesterday mid-day and no response so far.

 

I think it also depends on if he needs to fish out art, check with artists, ect....

That's nearly unprecedented. Congrats! In several years of buying from him, I don't think I ever got an answer in under a week.

Ditto.  Hearing that gives me complex. :ohnoez: I feel like he prioritizes collectors/friends over people he doesn't know. (which may not be the case)

 

Its typically taken 2 weeks to get a reply during the sale.  He'd only reply on Sunday, so if I didn't hear by Sunday night I'd know that its another week of waiting. :facepalm:

Yup, my experience exactly! I sent in an email yesterday for the heck of it, will be interested to see when I hear back. I've ordered something pretty much every year for many years now, but last year I didn't even get an answer back at all.

Hi, all:

I've been talking to Spencer about answering your questions regarding his sale, David Finch artwork, and other topics raised here.  Spencer has asked me to post his straight-forward responses as follows, and please note he changes to all CAPS towards the end not to 'yell' at anyone, but simply for the sake of expediency:

 

To answer all of the questions or statements about me, I wanted to clear up a few issues :

 

1) ATT: IGNIMBRITE -- David Finch and I are still friends. David & Meredith Finch have decided to pull David’s artwork from the market for the near future as they realized they  did not have a lot of “PRIME” artwork left and wanted to have some artwork to give to their kids.  

At some point in the future, David Finch’s artwork will return to sale. Whether or not it will be me selling it again, I have no clue.  I am sure they will cross that bridge when they come to it. What I was told is that they may release some of the non “PRIME” artwork sooner than the “PRIME”  stuff. No decision has been made as it is not a priority to them at this point. 

I DO have some David Finch artwork from Scott Hanna who inked him on many issues of his run on Wonder Woman and have one cover left from Batman & Robin Eternal.  I will also soon have back, Danny Miki’s portion of the Batman artwork as well as some newer stuff they have done together. No, I do not have a date when that stuff will be available for sale. SORRY. Just check back in with me in about a month for this update. 

 

2) ATT: EXITMUSICBLUE -- Many Mark Bagley VENOM pages have come in but are not yet online. Scans of most of the pages are available upon request.  Just email me at Spencerbck@aol.com and I can send them out to you no problem. Prices available upon request. 

 

3) ATT: MAGNUSX -- Email me and maybe we can resolve your issues?  I cannot help fix something if I do not know who you are or what the issues are. Maybe I can, maybe I cannot, but I certainly can try if I know what they are. 

 

4) ATT: HAL TURNER – Sorry about the error.  My web tech pasted “SALE” in the wrong field in error. THANK YOU actually for bringing it to my attention. After seeing your post, it was immediately fixed.

 

5) ATT: CATWOMAN FAN – You are correct, my stable is shrinking. Some by choice, some not. For example, Bob Layton no longer has any original artwork to sell. I have sold all of it. Same goes for Jackson Guice  ( in his case he traded what he had left for some strip art he wanted ). Some of the artists simply are pulling their artwork off the market for a while such as David Finch. Some are simply not selling and I am sending them their artwork back in hopes they might be able to sell what little is left themselves at con appearances. 

 

6) ATT : GREENLAKE – Andrea DiVito asked for his artwork back ( we are trying to figure out the logistics to return it economically to Italy ) so his wife could sell it for him when they do shows in Italy where they live. He only works digitally now so there has not been anything new to add for years. As a result, sales have been lagging for obvious reasons. HOWEVER, if you look at the link  http://www.theartistschoice.com/divito.htm I still have the majority of that artwork left. So send me an email if there's anything you're interested in.

 

7) ATT : DEPUTY – How long it takes me to respond correlates to how many orders I get and where your order falls within the list as well as if it is something I need an answer from the artist or I have the artwork myself. Sometimes I can answer right away and other times, it can take a LOOONG time as many of the artists put very low priority in selling artwork and simply get to it when they get to it. I do work a full time, 9 ½ hour per day, day job so that does indeed slow me down a great deal. When someone gets a lightning fast response usually either I have the box open in front of me ( which happened last night as I was going through Cam Smith’s art to pull an order and the page in question was right there ) OR I am aware the artwork has been requested already by one or more customers OR I am looking for something else and happened to see the page and pull it out. 

 

8) ATT : CATWOMAN FAN – the reason customers usually only hear from me on the weekend is I pull artwork all throughout the week ( while exhausted from my day job ) and then on the weekend when I am fresh, due all of the paperwork as well as answer all of the emails. I am working on the orders during the week, just not always replying.

 

9) ATT : F FOR FAKE – I am sorry you did not get a response last year. Either I did not get your email or I accidentally deleted it. I wish you would have checked back with me. I never know if I did not get something or lost it until I am asked. PLEASE EVERYONE UNDERSTAND … when I run the sale I generally get between 500 to 750 emails in about 3 days. Usually requesting multiple THOUSANDS of pages. It takes time to pull, confirm discounts, confirm availability from artists I do not have, process and email back. 

 

10) ATT: CLOUD CLODDIE  -- I am sorry that you experienced so many sold items. During the sale, in an average year, I sell about 5,000 to 7,500 pages. Things move ultra fast which is also why the website has been so messed up. Not being computerized, it is hard to make sure every page is removed from the site. As I noted in the original post , we have removed a HUGE amount of sold artwork from the site and working to remove more every day. It is a hard process when I have customers that placed such large orders. For example, I already have one order in house from a  customer in Europe for, no joke, around 900 pages of artwork. Orders like that drain the well really fast for popular artwork. 

 

TO BE CLEAR,  I AM NOT PERFECT. I GIVE NO PRIORITY TO FRIENDS OVER ANYONE ELSE. I GIVE NO PRIORITY TO BIG CUSTOMERS OVER SMALL CUSTOMERS. WITH RARE EXCEPTION, ORDERS ARE PULLED IN THE ORDER THEY COME IN. OCCASSIONALLY, I DO GO OUT OF ORDER AS I MENTIONED I MAY HAVE A SINGLE ITEM I KNOW NOBODY ELSE ORDERED AND I COME ACROSS IT WHILE LOOKING FOR STUFF SO I PULL  IT OUTTO SAVE TIME.  IT IS NOT A PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT AT ALL …  SIMPLY A PRACTICAL ONE. 

 

IF ANYONE HAS ISSUES WITH ME, I WOULD APPRECIATE THEM BEING BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION SO I CAN ADDRESS THEM. MY EMAIL IS SpencerBck@aol.com . I AM SURE THERE WILL BE SOME ISSUES I JUST CANNOT POSSIBLY DO ANYTHING ABOUT. SOME THINGS I CERTAINLY CAN.  SOME THINGS MAYBE I CAN FIX. MAYBE THERE WAS SIMPLY A MISUNDERSTANDING. OBVIOUSLY, I CANNOT MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY. WE ARE ALL HUMAN, WE MAKE MISTAKES, NOBODY IS PERFECT, AND I'M NO EXCEPTION, BUT  I CANNOT DO ANYTHING THOUGH, UNLESS I AM AWARE OF THE ISSUE. 

 

FINALLY, JUST A LONG IN ADVANCE ANNOUNCEMENT …. 

 

 I HAVE BEGUN WORKING ON AN ALL NEW, STATE OF THE ART, ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES YOU CAN POSSIBLY ASK FOR WEBSITE. I WILL BE OFFERING MANY THINGS I CURRENTLY DO NOT SUCH AS LICENSED SKETCH BOOKS, LICENSED PRINTS, SIGNED COMICS, ARTIST’S PERSONAL COMICS SIGNED AND SOME REMARKED ( BOTH RECENT AND OLDER COMICS ), MORE ARTISTS DOING COMMISSIONS THAN EVER, MORE ARTIST’S ART TO SELL, SOME OTHER COLLECTIBLE ITEMS FROM CELEBRITIES I AM FRIENDS WITH JUST TO NAME A FEW NEW THINGS I WILL BE OFFERING. YES, THERE WILL BE A SHOPPING CART FEATURE TOO. I JUST HAVE TO WORK OUT THE DETAILS AS WE GO ALONG FOR EACH. 

 

THAT BEING SAID,  I AM ASKING FOR YOUR PATIENCE AS IT IS GOING TO TAKE MANY MONTHS TO COMPLETE DUE TO THE SHEER VOLUME OF MATERIALS AVAILABLE. I HAVE A FULL TIME PERSON RE-SCANNING EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF ARTWORK FROM EVERY SINGLE ARTIST I REP TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE CORRECT & CLEAR SCANS TO AVOID ANY ISSUES. THE NEW WEBSITE WILL HAVE A SCAN FOR EVER ITEM AS IT GOES ONLINE. THERE WILL BE NO ARTWORK PLACED ON THE SITE WITHOUT A SCAN PRESENT. 

 

FINALLY, I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE ( CUSTOMERS REGULAR & OCCASSIONAL, LARGE & SMALL )  FOR YOUR 31 YEARS OF ONGOING SUPPORT AND PATRONAGE. I HAVE FORGED MANY LIFELONG FRIENDSHIPS AS A RESULT OF THIS INDUSTRY SO I HAVE A LOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR.
