im sure its be answered before and i apologise in advance for asking, but there is a gold sdcc mm 1 on ebay now and its blue label. shouldnt it be qualified seeing as there was no cgc when it was signed?

You can ask for CGC to ignore the signature and just grade the book like it wasnt there. Thats why its a blue label. Plus the signature is on the inside of the book not on the cover like 99 % of yellow label slabs.

The SDCC MM 1's are legit and I would like one if anyone has one and would only like 3 hundred dollars for it...

Signatures on the interior of the book get a blue label by default.

Hey George :hi:

There's a highest and only graded copy of the blue foil edition which is also a 9.0 so maybe the seller got confused with that one.

Would love to know where the other 98 2D's are hm

I would guess a large portion of the 100 copies were destroyed in the flood that destroyed most of Eclipse Comics' backstock in 1986.

I think they were all sold as both early numbers and later numbers have turned up, some info here:

Miracleman 2D info

I think there are around 6 known copies.

I could easily see that book at 1K or even 2K but 5K?????

Hmmm - this is very interesting.

I think I've posted several times here but there are (or were) 6 known copies -

1 owned by D Wilson, a UK collector, no.92 /100

1 sold on eBay US in 2002 for around $150 (from memory, verified in 2009 by RockMyAmadeus on the CGC boards);

1 owned by Al Stoltz (reported in the article "MiracleMan 2-D Copy Discovered!" published in "Scoop" 15th February 2008);

1 owned by "ladines" on CGC boards "I believe mine is number 82 but don't have it on hand to confirm.";

1 owned by Michael S, no. 19/100

1 owned by "Chipmaker" no. ??/100 (photo's published 02/01/11 on CGC boards)

The graded copy is Chipmaker's - now identified as no.7/100

However, now being sold by Basement Comics... run by Al Stoltz?

So is this the same copy as the Scoop one? hm

If so that's just 5 - or even 4 as the 2002 copy is not fully confirmed or documented.

Would I pay $5,000+ ? no but I would've probably paid $1000-$2,000 nearly 10 years ago when this whole quest began.

I know now some of the original Marvelman books are even rarer.

It's a stunningly rare book but getting it graded at only a 9.0 impacts it's mystique and Michael's copy looks better. Also the ebay auction has blurd pictures. It would sell for more raw I reckon. But we'll see. Best of luck!

CGC's notification is a bit under-whelming as well. But at least they noticed!

Hey! Who does this web-site? (He's knicked some of my data)

How come there are suddenly TWO graded 2D's (no.7 and no.23) both 9.0?

No.23 is a new copy then?

It also pictures no.91 too? So another copy? Makes 8 now?

The 2D has got 33.33% more common in the space of 5 mins!

I think Chipmaker's CGC 9.0 is actually 23/100 so is the other CGC 9.0.

AAAHHHAAA!

Ok, got it

So the Stoltz one is no.7

Chip's no.23

makes sense

So back to 6

or is it 7?

Funny how to come to the market after all this time and are both 9.0s ? hm

Reads more... hey this is actually a great site

but...

The print runs on Miracleman started at just over 20,000 for issue #1 but, by issue #11, that had halved. Miracleman #15 is the most famous of the issues featuring the death of Kid Miracleman but also rare due to a low print run of just over 7,000. Issue #21 is rarer still with a print run under 7,000 but the rarest of all is #24 with a print run of only 6,400.

This is inaccurate. These widely misunderstood numbers come from the CBG guide and were pre-order numbers for a distributer (if I recall)

Miracleman no.1 had a confimed print run of 135,000

what is a lot more scarce than is generaly appreciated is the British version of no.1 (different back cover, indicia and advert). This wasn't distributed in America.

I have the top UK CGC copy (9.6); I might even sell it at the right price :) . Note that Dez Skinn has even run out of UK copies now (and he did have a big stash of them at one time) so maybe getting harder to get hold of.

I had my copy (#23/100) graded and slabbed about a year ago, and since I have no real interest in keeping it, off to auction it goes. Yeah, sense of urgency is zero. Lotta other things going on.

Don't read any significance into this serial number (#23) indicating how many copies might be out there. I requested #23 in my letter to cat, and hurray, she complied. (At the time, late 1985, I had recently finished reading Shea & Wilson's "Illuminatus Trilogy", in which the number 23 often appears, so it was on my mind.)

As for CGC taking note -- I submitted it directly into an employee's hands at a convention here in Austin, and pointed out the 2D interior and had it noted on the paperwork. And they missed it; when I got it back the first time, there was nothing noted on the label. Complained, sent it back, and then they got it right.

Ah thought the indicia was the same but just checked and it says "NOT FOR SALE WITHIN NORTH AMERICA" on the UK copy.
