Best Way To Find Buyers that.....

What is the best way to find Buyers that are buying for their "Personal Collection"

I have a rather large collection, and Have A lot of Doubles and Triples of Key Issues....but I have no interest in selling to dealers as usually pay 50% of what they are worth and then re-sell them for a profit...

I'm looking for a site where Collectors are looking for comics for their personal collections, as These are they type that would pay reasonably close to what the books are actually worth.

I Have Pulled around 1100 Marvel and DC Key Issues from My collection and I'd like to find some buyers that could give me a list of Certain Key Issues they are looking to buy for their Personal Collection, so I could then know if I have any Doubles or Triples and would want to sell.

I live in Indiana, and I've tried craiglist's but no luck.

I've searched the net...every site I go to is full with 90% dealers....I'd just like to find a site that has a community of Collectors that are trying to find The Issues they need for Their collection

I could see how this post could be offensive, I'll understand if you dont care to respond but if anyone does I'd appropriate it

PS this is not a TROLL thread(I posted here a few years ago and got blasted with "post pictures" or get out comments(I have pics if its really necessary)

The truth is unless you want to try Epay, selling at Cons or an auction you are not going to get top dollar, especially not quick. Most people want to find the killer deal especially since most books are not that hard to find Unless you are talking GA and even then some are not that hard.

What you are looking for is a unicorn. It does not exist. Any website that has a presence is going to have dealers on it. With that said, this site is a good place to sell fee free IF a) you have quality material and b) know how to grade. What kind of "Key issues" are we talking about here? You can get top dollar for keys here if you know how to grade. But by keys I mean actual keys, not the "keys" like the first appearance of whatever movie speculation character is hot right now.

There are less and less “collectors”. Most I see are tons of flippers. Sucks for the industry. Nobody collects runs. Keys, keys, keys. If you want close to market value you gotta sell retail - eBay, conventions etc.. be prepared to have your inventory sit for a long time unless you’re letting go cheap.

well I didnt really want to post my entire collection of Keys but I might....Its Basically every Key Issue from Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Iron Man, Daredevil, Tales Of Suspense(starting at 41) and Astonish(starting at 27), Thor(Not JIM, Thor starting at 126), and Captain America....

I've Pulled 1-20 on all of them, and Then Pulled every Key Issues from The sets(I have Near complete sets everything listed above) and then I've probably another 500 Keys from other Marvel Titles and some DC Keys

This is the complete list of all my KEYS with out Grades-(theres a few issues listed that arent KEYS but I have them listed for Grading Purposes, example being JLA #22 to 37, I have them listed because They are Near Mint)

What’s the average grade? A lot of those books would be great to consign (if you don’t feel like selling yourself).

There are some where you’d probably be better off listing as runs vs individuals (the higher # Xmen, caps, etc).

Selling the books individually will net you the highest prices (typically). If you’re trying to sell ASM 1-20 as a run (for example), you’re probably not going to get top dollar as you’ll most likely be selling to a dealer.

Based on what you listed, there’s no doubt you’re going to get bombarded with PM’s. You could sell quite a few of those books here. You might get top dollar for some of them, but not a majority. Consigning them thru a dealer might be the best option.

Here is the problem.

I am a collector.

I am also a seller.

I have my collection but do not think for a moment that if I have the chance to upgrade a book that I am not going to do that and sell the undercopy.

I am also sometimes refocus my interests.

You are NOT going to find ANYONE that is going to abide by your wishes never to sell the books you sell to them.

Aside from that, you are better off selling the books on your own unless you need quick cash.

I don't see where the OP said that his wish is that the buyer never sell the books, he is just looking for the best way to sell the books without having to do so at the dealer's discount.

Patience is obviously going to be key. Here or ebay? Put be prepared for it to take a while.

eBay would be your best bet. Hot books can go to Auction and the rest can be BIN OBO.

You can sleep well at night knowing you sold your books at the largest online marketplace.

All the expensive books will sell easily on consignment sights like my comic shop, comic connect, heritage, etc particularly if slabbed and you don't work. But unless you are established, folks do not trust grades on eBay, so folks tend to bid lime a book is a grade lower than advertised.

Step 1: slab all the key issues (eg: spider-man 1.)

Step 2: Ebay auctions, listed individually.

Otherwise, a dealer is your best bet to buy the lot for a fair price. It's a ton of work to sell comics.

**I do want to mention that you have a great collection of sellable books.

billbrown7080 : if you are not willing to take the time and effort to sell your books you will not receive the top dollar. It takes effort and that is why other sellers / dealers pay you less because it takes many hours to process the books and price them and try to sell them and not all of the books will sell.

Here is the advice I can offer:

To do it yourself by selling via online you will need a quality image ( quality image means a scan, not a picture )of the front, back and potentially the inside of the more valuable books to show page quality ( inside is a photograph ) then list the book on:

1. The selling forums on this website

2. Ebay

3. send them to an auction house like Comiclink

4. Facebook

5. Mycomicshop

6. any of the plethora of online sales sites

You will need to take the risks associated with selling online. I can argue that you should also grade via CGC the more valuable books so you will need to risk shipping your books to CGC and then paying for pressing/ grading. Buyers will feel more comfortable paying top dollar for a CGC graded book than a raw book through online channels.

Option 2 is you can pay for tables at a comic show local to you and try to sell there.

My opinion: someone interested in the books you have to offer for their personal collection likely already owns a large percentage of them. Myself I have owned every book you listed and many of them multiple times and I don't care to own them personally and I would only be interested in buying them for resale. If a book is worth $100.00 and I know that what I could potentially sell it for is $100.00 I certainly do not want to buy it at $100.00 so to be honest unless you are willing to discount it I wouldn't waste my time attempting to buy your books so in effect you are limiting the number of potential buyers for your books. Consider that in your attempt to sell that almost all of your potential customers are really looking to resell /flip and make some money so you will need to leave some meat on the bone otherwise you will sell the mega keys and the rest will trickle out over a period of YEARS.

Good luck selling that whole stash. You are gonna want to invest time and money on those higher end books. One of the biggest fear people have of buying raw books (mainly GA/SA/BA) is that they will have unforeseen restoration which cuts the value of the book significantly. By sending those books to CGC you will (assuming you dont get the Purple Label Of Death) get the most out of your sales.

The only way to find the site you want is to invent a time machine and go back before E-Bay and look for an AOL message boards for comic book collectors. If you can't invent a time machine then this site is as close as you will get especially if you don't like E-bay.

I've found from personal experience getting more money requires more time. Accepting less money requires less time. Pretty much a direct relation between the two. As many have already said in some sense, the two extremes are sell them here or feebay one at a time with good scans and description you will yield near full-retail; sell them in bulk and yield wholesale revenues; sell them in batches and might gain medium returns. Sending them off to 'my comics shop' (or maybe it was comic-link?) might be a good bang for buck tradeoff, a lot of collectors here say they like that, not too much work, pretty good returns.
