Mycomicshop is sure making it tough to be a dealer.  They basically act as a dealer and only take a 10% commission after they impart a ton of experience, sell the books and provide a ton of leg work.  They would be who I went to if I was trying to sell a collection with a minimum amount of work.

Sure my comic shop is a good option but Bill has stated he wants to do the work himself

They only want $50+ books, but yeah, you can probably slide some $30-$40 ones in there (but there will still be a $5 fee minimum, so it is more than 10%) and my guess is that they maybe grade the consignment books a bit harsh? I dunno, I thought I heard that somewhere. On the other hand, that just means folks will be willing to pay higher prices. On the flip side, if you want your books back if they don't sell for a while, there is a  cost beyond shipping. Plus, my work computer does not let me log on there, it is blocked!! They must think it is porn or something. But they let me log into Milehigh??

You asked about selling this collection over a year ago, and received essentially the same advice.

Were you expecting different answers this time around?  Did you attempt to sell any of the books over the course of the past 18 months?

no not different answers.... just ANSWERS....I got very little response  18 months ago...Only 6 replies....

first, I'm interested in selling much different comics now....then I only wanted to sell duplicates starting at 100 on....

Now I'm interested in selling KEYS...I figured this was a Huge difference and wanted advice on how to best sell...

second, even If I got wrote the exact same post, word for word the exact same(which I didnt) Its been 18 months....

thats a long time for different and new people to come on these boards and potentially give better advice or for regular poster to respond this time that didnt respond last time...

basically it seem you are just looking to be mean...I could understand if I made the same post a month apart....

But were talking about 2 posts made 18 months apart where I'm asking for advice in selling 2 completely different type of collections...

This newest thread has been everything I could have wanted, I've gotten Dozens of replies with people giving me great advice.

18 months ago I got 6 replies and didnt really get the advice or response I was hoping for...

all in all....I'm extremely happy I made this new post....I also find it quite ODD it seems to bother you this much and quite astonished you didnt understand the differences between the thread 18 months ago and this new thread(to be honest, They cant be anymore different)

Also no I did not attempt to sell the book in the last 18 months...My dad ended up going in and out of a nursing home for about 14 months before finally coming home about 2 months ago on Home Hospice to pass away...

I thought I was going to need the extra money 18 months ago to take care of him better at home, but for the most part he ended up spending most of the time at Nursing homes....he tried coming home many times but quickly got sick and had to go back to the hospital, then back to  nursing homes.

he passed away Monday, and I now would like to sell a few KEYS to help with Funeral costs.

If those wall books are any indication, it looks like you're sitting on a nice collection.  I can appreciate that you are inexperienced in selling comics, but after working with them every day for 3 years, you should have a pretty good idea of what you have.  There are only so many ways to sell comics, and most of them have been mentioned in this thread, some more than once.  If you really want to sell them, you need to pick one or more and get started, otherwise that collection might end up getting passed on to a 4th generation.

If you want a place to start, why not pick out 5 or 6 key issues and make a sales thread here on the boards to test the waters?  Folks here are looking for deals, but they are also willing to pay a fair price for properly graded, quality books.  There are no fees to pay, so 100% of the proceeds end up in your pocket.  As long as you know how to grade, can spot and disclose any restoration, and price well, you will make sales.  Just remember, anyone can get these same books from a number of well established sources if they want to pay full retail, so be prepared to leave some meat on the bone or your books won't sell.  If any of those 3 things I mentioned are missing, have someone who sells comics for a living do it for you.  You'll come out way ahead in the long run.

Which of the advice given do you plan on following?

so far I really like The "Mycomicshop" recommendations, I'm looking into it and like what I see...

I'm right now looking into and considering shipping 20 of my best Comics to CGC....everyone here is in agreement, with my best and most value issues thats the way to get the best value.

I also really like ComicLink Auctions, I got a PM from the marketing director, saying they will do everything and only take a 10% cut

and of course I've got a ton of PMs from people whom I'm taking to...

all in all, I couldnt be happier with the advice and response the thread has gotten....

All right, well without going through every single every post, here are some "don't add up" lines to me:

1. "plus 2 years ago, I had no interest in selling"

--> June 24, 2017 (not 2 years ago, but a year and a half): https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/417586-question-about-selling-comics/

2. The number of boxes keeps changing

--> Jan 30, 2017 90 boxes, almost all Silver Age: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/409371-question-about-production-flaws-in-comics/

--> Feb 2, 2017 50-70 boxes, 25 of which are Marvel + DC combined: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/409604-question-for-regulars-and-collectors/

--> Dec 1, 2018 up to 175 boxes: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/443234-best-way-to-find-buyers-that/?do=findComment&comment=10469755

3. The pictures show several posters on the walls, along with not being a comic collector -- or maybe you just got into it in the last 3 years when you started going through the collection -- the posters are older than three years and would have to have been put up before the boxes and shelving.

The number of boxes dont change....

I list different boxes because I want to be specific to what I'm talking about...

The collection started out as 175 boxes....

Only around 85 to 90 of which ended up being marvel and DC..

The rest was westerns,archies,dell,looney tunes, and stuff like that....

so in one post where I said 90....that was accurate as I was talking about all My Marvel and DC...

In the other post where I noted 50 to 70, I was referring only to My Major Marvel and DC sets...as I have a bunch of boxes with Marvel and DC but there are off the wall sets like The Machine Man, Kull, The Thing, Nova, and so on...

I wasnt changing the amount of boxes, Only trying to be specific.

to recap.

total collection is 175.

around 90 of which are marvel and dc

somewhere around 50 + boxes are Major sets and duplicates of major sets.

20 to 40 boxes are off the wall marvel and dc titles

"plus 2 years ago, I had no interest in selling"

--> June 24, 2017 (not 2 years ago, but a year and a half)"

^^

and I'm not even going to comment on the "Time" because if this is the best you can do your just reaching ....

sorry for not stopping directly in the middle of a post and going back to look at my history to see the exact date, I truly can say only someone who is looking to argue would be bothered by that....

^^^

read my posts!....

I specifically said it took Me 3 years to go through the collection, Not that I've only been collecting 3 years.

In My post, I said I started collecting in 2006, I had a small collection of duplicate my grandfather gave me.

in 2013 he passed away, that is when I inhered the collection...from 2013 until 2016 is when I went through the entire collection.

I'm not kidding every single thing you tried to nitpick and point out is explained in the posts in this thread...

I feel like OP doesnt really want advice he wants someone to buy entire collection but give him full value for the books.  That is never going to happen.

Any collector would already have most of the books he needs.  No dealer is gonna buy books then sell them for exactly what he bought them for.  No rich guy is gonna wake up one day and say wow I think I want to collect comics is there some entire collection I can buy?

Thats the complete opposite....I dont want to selling hardly any of my collection.

I only want to sell a few Key issues to help pay for my dads funeral...

But I had no clue how to best sell Key Issues.

I was hoping I could find a community of collectors that were looking for certain Key Issues to fill in their collections and I could then sell them a few of My Keys for remotely close to their value...

I would be LOST without my collection, I'll probably take it to grave with me...but I do need to sell a few Keys...and this thread has provided great advice....only it seems to be taken a turn for the worst in the last day with quite a few people now being mean...

I think posting pictures was a mistake...

I think we understand better now that you say you just want to sell a few keys.  That answers all the questions.

I think his point was: how much did you learn about selling comics in the past 18 months.? How much homework did you do, how much did you read, how much did you learn on your own? The answer sounds like "nothing", which is a slap in the face to this board.

Yes the answer is Nothing...

as I said, I never wanted to sell any of my collection...The only reason why I made the thread 18 months ago was because I thought I was going to need extra money to help care for my dad...

The thread I made 18 months didnt get very many responses, and Then My dad went to nursing homes on and off for 14 ,months....

basically, once my father started going to nursing homes, I didnt think I was going to need to sell any comics anymore, therefor I didnt look into it any further.

Monday my world changed when he passed away.

sorry if my situation is a slap in the face...I would think you can understand, I just never had any intentions of ever selling anything from my collection, But then a situation hit where I considered it and Then it went away....
