It wasn't bad it just wasn't great. I thought they missed a great section of the film by not exploring those "smart" zombies more.
That too me was the most interesting part of the film that didn't get enough time. I loved the idea of Zeus and would to have liked
to have seen more on him.

pretty much agree with all of that.

Also

Spoiler

I don't get the need for the double cross.    They don't care about the money, and - as the tiger proved - he could use them to help keep him safe and get his prize back safely rather than go it alone.   Plus the evidence that other teams failed which must mean their inside security guy was killed should be reason enough for him to keep at least some of the team with him

The funny thing is, it is the cut he wanted but the version just released is 100% not a version I expect Snyder would approve of on a technical level. Snyder is totally a director who wants his film to be exact and to his specifications, and does sweat the details like resolution...and the Netflix release had some odd "dead pixels" in it. So expect the version currently streaming to be re-released ASAP with a corrected transfer (or at least with whatever new file the studio provides - not sure where in the pipe line this issues might have cropped up so I'm very interested to learn more about it. THEN we will have the proper Snyder approved version) :D

My wife would not stand for anything less, I need to keep my cinema tech knowledge up or else they would drop me like a faulty camera sensor or cable.

Corrected the Foz' to be more on theme for this issue

I'll watch it tonight in your honor, though I am not usually deep into zombie movies. Though I did very much enjoy Dawn of the Dead Unrated Cut.

And to your two TV's I salute you.

Going to watch it fully tomorrow - I started it last night but had to stop about 20 minutes in due to my dog going full on crazy due to fireworks - at least she was able to simulate the experience of being back in an actual theatre with loud talking teens messing up the screening :D

Watched it, though zombie movies are not my common focus.

It's a zombie movie. They usually lead into leading cast members dying. Otherwise the stakes aren't real.

Brutal yet full of intensity and action. And the mystery of the zombie origin remains that most probably for future sequel use.

I was hoping for a fun, cheesy ride but it was overlong with too many useless characters. The plan of a billionaire recruiting a guy and saying he has 96 hours to put together a team including a safe cracker and a helicopter pilot? Sure was lucky the protagonist just happened to know these very specific (and extremely easy to convince) people . "You're putting together a heist in zombie-fied Vegas? Son of a person_without_enough_empathy, I'm in!" What a waste of time.

So recognizing the AotD animated is going to tell the origins of the zombies and the prequel (Army of Thieves) will be about the safecracker Ludwig Dieter, I wonder if a sequel will be about that alternate timeline.

There is a hidden story here that Army of the Dead didn't just jump out and tell in the first film.

Spoiler

Speaking to TheFilmJunkee, Snyder teased the survival of Matthias Schweighöfer's Ludwig Dieter, the team's safecracker. The director plays coy when asked about whether or not Dieter makes it out of The Bly casino alive, but did point to the fact that he is not seen dying onscreen. Snyder goes on to cite the "rules of horror" that imply a character may be alive if their death is not explicitly shown.

"We don't see [Dieter] die, that's true. That's fair. You would say in a horror movie if we don't see you die ... by the rules of horror..."

Ok, saw this yesterday with my 9 year old daughter who wanted to see a "horror" movie. I will admit I liked Snyder's Dawn remake and was looking forward to this. Wanted to like this more than I did but just too much potential not achieved and cliches abundant. Netflix subscriber so the price was right.

Spoiler

Both me and my 9 year old were yelling at them to just get on the stupid helicopter at the end and stop gushing at each other. The big bad zombie was going to jump out and there he was as expected.

Then of course, the one guy emerging just right after a nuke blast with no radiation poisoning, able to grab bags of money, find a car within walking distance and then survive all that long while being bitten. Bautista turned within minutes............

Ok to pass the time if you don't have anything else to do.
I was not expecting a good snyder movie, so no disappointment in that department.
I was hoping for a decent Zombie Movie, Big Let Down...!

Just from the follow-on details that have been coming out, I think there is more here than is being outright displayed on screen in an obvious way.

Like the main zombie Zeus is really an alien (like a Ghosts of Mars type concept), and these other zombies are created to serve the Alpha class. So if anyone came to the screen looking for The Walking Dead, this could be where expectations are not met. Viewers wanted the details direct and clear without any hints of future franchise explanations.

Time will tell. But the genre expectations could get in the way of accepting what was conveyed in this movie.

Midway through the movie in Bly’s casino, Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer) notices a group of dead bodies with suspiciously similar clothing to the current crew. They seemingly tried – and failed – to break into Tanaka’s vault. Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick) throws out an out-of-character meta line about whether it’s "another team… or is it us?" This line is the key to unlocking one of the most out-of-left-field theories we've seen in a while.

Vanerohe explains, "It could be us in another timeline and we’re caught in some infinite loop of fighting and dying and fighting and dying."

Then, it gets deeper. Vanderohe describes Tanaka as something far greater: "The puppetmaster, the devil, God. We’re… simply pawns in some in some perverse play where we’re destined to repeat our failures. Finally, in some mind-bending, ironic reveal – it all begins again."

Army of the Dead’s passionate (and observant) fanbase has rounded up some of the best and most compelling arguments in favor of a time loop theory. But let’s start at the bodies. There, one shares a key that is identical to Maria’s own necklace, and there is more than one reference to this being the fourth time they're heading to the casino in the loop.

There are also various nods to other timelines and other events occurring differently throughout the movie. Dieter dreams up a zombie siege during a montage as Tanaka explains the grand heist during the first actor of the movie. Some fans think it was actually Snyder giving the viewer a peek into a successful at snagging the money first time around – all thanks to the inclusion of Guzman’s friend.

This has got to be blowing Zack Snyder's mind having a study that comes up with innovative ways to market his films. He better not get used to this crazy concept.

Director Zack Snyder returned to the zombie genre with a bang last week, as he debuted Army of the Dead on Netflix. The film was met with critical acclaim and an instant audience, holding on to the number one spot on Netflix's Top 10 since its release. Snyder released Army of the Dead not just as a film, but as an entire franchise, with a prequel movie and animated series already set for Netflix, in addition to a potential sequel that he seems keen on directing. Now Snyder can add a VR experience to the growing list of Army of the Dead projects, after he announced on Wednesday afternoon that an immersive game set in the world of his movie is going on tour this fall.

Army of the Dead - Viva Las Vengeance is an all-new VR experience set against the backdrop of Snyder's fictional zombie franchise. The new experience will be taken around the United States in a zombie-killing taco truck, allowing fans of the film to jump into the action themselves.
