Very nice.  Such a cool cover.

Wow, the provenance of that book is pretty rad.  @Dr. Balls

I had it and sold it on CLink awhile back. It was a super cool cover, but the realism of me landing any more FF Frazettas wasn't as high of a priority as my PCH want list, so I just let 'er go. It was a really nice looking book in the slab. (I think these are Point Five's original photos, too). I kinda wish I hadn't gotten rid of it (don't we all), but I did pick up a Beware #10 Frazetta cover for my horror collection, so I at least have him represented. I think finding nice presenting lower grade accessible Famous Funnies are about as hard to find as high grades - therein lies my regret.

As an added bonus, this exact copy with same serial number is on Ebay here for over 2X markup:

I sold mine on CLink for $1500 at a slight loss back in March. :frustrated: Win some, lose some.

I believe I purchased unslabbed on myComicshop for $89.00.  I thought I sold it here, but can't locate the threads - sold for a nice round $250.

Kinda cool we've got this worked back to an $89 price tag. A few more people backwards, and we might find the guy who bought it off the newsstand for a dime!

Sheer awesome. Not enough to go around. And a lot of Jonny-come-latelys (that's me) trying to complete their sets.

The Frazetta  Famous Funnies run has some of the best GA sci fi covers.  213 and 214 are the most coveted.

They allegedly inspired George Lucas while he was creating Star Wars( including Chewbacca)

I've always liked those covers, but I don't agree that 213 and 214 are the most coveted; 214 may be in the running, but not 213.

216 used to be the most sought after by run builders because it was considered less common in high grade. Based on the census, it doesn't appear to be as scarce as people thought.

All of those books are pretty common; I think they're pretty risky at current prices.

There is probably more competition for nicely presenting lower grade Frazetta covers than high grade ones. These have gotton so high, most people are frozen out of even mid grade copies. A decent lower grade copy is still better than no copy. Glad I bought my run when I still could. Frazetta FF issues have always been very sought after.

Frazetta remains the most undervalued artist in comics and magazines.

Agreed. I love Cole and Schomburg covers but Frazetta is on another level.

I really like Frazetta's 1950s comic covers... I wish he'd done ten times as many before leaving the comics world. The layouts are striking and the inking is gorgeous.

The magazine covers are cool but they don't grab me in the same way, perhaps due in part to the somewhat muddy reproductions.

The two All Sellect 1's, what happened there? The 4.0 was overbid considering past results of higher grade copies in the past year or so but the 5.5 went low compared to the previous four 7.0 .

Yep, even with the noted visual defects on the CGC 5.5 as pointed out by a few boardies here, that is still a rather shocking price imbalance between the two copies. :whatthe:

Especially when we’ve been so conditioned here that it’s always about the CGC grade, until it’s not I guess. (:

There's not a lot that can be gleaned from this result beyond speculation on which variables might've affected the sale. Some may point to the label making a difference, others would point to the apparent condition of each copy (the 4.0 looking sharper than grade while the 5.5 looks more ragged and too much off the right edge). Also, the bidder dynamics might've changed over two days with additional collectors getting onboard for the latter auction ...perhaps looking for bargains... who weren't involved on the 16th (note: This point would've been moot if the books had been auctioned back to back). hm

Is it about the CGC grade, how each book presents, the label, timing or something in the notes about each book's history? (shrug) ...Inquiring minds want to know!

I feel the same. For some reason the magazine work just doesn't give me the same spark.

His interior comics work, though limited in volume, was fantastic and highly influential on Bernie Wrightson in particular. Frazetta's romance stories are on another level. I give this book my highest possible recommendation for anyone who hasn't experienced Frazetta work beyond the covers.

Nice, If I own the Taschen Frazetta book would this overlap or have new material?
