It seems odd that the book received an overall grade of 9.4 with the first cover graded at 7.0.

Since their inception, CGC bases the grade  on the best of the two covers.

CGC Grader Notes:
double cover 1st cover 7.0, interior cover 9.4
shadow full top of back cover
shadow left center of front cover
spine stress lines breaks color
tear with crease left center of back cover
light readers crease left center of cover

So, am I correct in assuming that the above Grader Notes would be referring to the exterior 7.0 cover?  hm

If so, I feel it would impart a lot more info to the submittor and/or potential bidders if they specify notes for both the interior 9.4 and exterior 7.0 covers.  (thumbsu

I don't think I've ever seen such a high grade interior cover with that much of a lower grade on the outer cover.

There are sellers who will cut out a bad outer cover because they believe that reduces the sales value of a book.

case in point

I had Matt take the outer off and returned to me with the re-slab.  I wanted to retain the Nancy Wessner sig for posterity, but it was a bit too wonky for my taste to look at in the slab.  There is no doubt in my mind that in this case the sales value would increase as a result.

and of course I could have got the outer off myself and just resubbed.  But if I remember correctly it cost $25, and thought the odds of retaining the 9.4 W were so much better having thrown a bone to CCS.

Good catch! I never noticed that.  (thumbsu  With most artists the faces pretty much all look alike, but Baker's faces are quite distinctive.

Surprised on the price for #34; that one comes up for sale more regularly than the others.

Perhaps b/c it's in a decent grade and the other copies are usually roughed up?

Two collectors going at it one loses all reason and just keeps hitting the bid button lol

Well, if you are surprised about the $2,880 on the #34, then how about the $6,600 on the Teen-Age Romances #39?  :whatthe:

Especially when the #34 is the single highest graded copy while the #39 one of two highest graded with just as many prior sales listed on HA. hm

I did not realize the #34 was highest-graded; that makes more sense in general (though I am not a highest-graded chaser as it usually only leads to disappointment -- especially when looking at some scans on this board).

I do understand #39's price more (though maybe not $6.6k) as not only is it seemingly harder to find, the grade is higher (5.5 vs 7.0), and the color is better (a zombie dance party vs two "teens" chatting it up).

Right now there are 5 copies of #34 on ebay/MCS; not 5.5 but they are available.

Here are two raw copies in "5.5" that sold last year (though they are not 5.5 at all):

I see 0 copies available for #39 and no sales in the past 2 years, on ebay.

Looks like that was the case with most of them. 6,600 is quite a lot for almost any Romance book to me. But one could see it as two serious Romance or Baker collectors doing what they had to do to get the highest graded example. ...........while losing all sense of reason.

And here's my #32. Not gonna inspire any bidding wars perhaps but I'm glad to have it. Classic cover for sure.

The reds on the 3.5 are amazing. (Great score, Professor K!)

Nice. Very nice. Personally to me the Romance (and Crime books as well)  from the late 40's through Silver age are just cool to have in any grade and especially raw so you can see the interior art if you wish.  Kirby/Simon's, Baker's, Cole's, Romita's ect ect. Every cover is unique and interesting. Always some drama happening. With so many titles with so few examples especially above mid grade just having a decent looking copy is a good thing.

I wanted one graded Baker romance book (actually there are a few I want but I never see)  and I thought the 3.5 looked good for the grade. I really don't mind the girls name written on the cover either.

Yes indeed, a big congrats to our resident Prof on his purchase of a gorgeous looking copy with the classic Baker foxy looking "tart" on the cover.:applause:

Thanks(thumbsu I'll scan it and post a pic on the Baker thread when it comes. I thought it would go a little cheaper( and it would have if I didn't get involved) because of the 4.5 copy in the Valentine auction. Had a 2k cap in mind beforehand. Had instant buyers remorse after it ended then when I saw what the others in title went for I felt a bit better. I like it. Plus I like how she resembles the girl on Cinderella 25. Could be the same girl even, "running around" after Chuck left.

That Valentine Good Girl auction is gonna be a lot of fun to watch.

I don't suppose, on Comic Connect's site, there is a filter I'm missing to try to limit to Golden Age? As opposed to scrolling through 600+ listings of any type of comic?

Nope, their category filters are useless trash. I basically only ever bid on items I am specifically looking for and are on my want list...otherwise I'll miss it and means I'm also not casually impulse buying (their loss)

Here's another good one:

It's infinitely more important I can filter by Drama-Genre comics, as opposed to specific years or ages.
