the blob
I also wouldn't do it because it is too easy to get complacent about the monthly charges, which add up and really add to the cost of your purchases, especially if you are on auto pay. If you're running a business maybe you can deduct it, but after I had paid for a storage unit for 2 or 3 years I realized I had spent well over $3000 on this darn thing that I'm never going to be able to deduct, basically turning a lot of those dollar box books I was storing there into $2 box books. If your collection is too big for where you live then maybe it is time to trim the collection or get a bigger home. I got a bigger home Edited April 16 by the blob D84 and CAHokie

One of the five bedrooms has way too many boxes now...damn. I do have a storage but freaked out about moving more to the storage though I have not had any problems with the storage for more than a decade... If your collection is so big that you gotta put some of it in storage, I would suggest you consider down-sizing. Mmehdy and D84

If it is too big for one room it is time to re-think it. Just get a really big room! CHASEnBLUE and Dave2739 1

cyclonus11
Oh man, my storage unit was on top of things. I once didn't secure my lock properly and they called me to tell me before I even got home. Also - my apartment burned down in 2020. If my comics weren't in storage, I wouldn't have any at all! (They are no longer in storage due to a sharp increase in storage unit prices. So please, no more fires ) Edited May 2 by cyclonus11 more info mysterymachine
shadroch
I just rented a spot to keep my 22-foot shipping container. It's a mix of shipping containers, RVs, and cars people are storing. The yard is a bit remote and on the bad side of town, but the manager lives on the premises, carries, and has a pack of junkyard dogs he lets run loose at night. A check with the police shows them responding a couple of times but no theft reports. I'm hoping to have it empty by next summer. It was $40 a month but he agreed to $320 cash for a year, with no refund if I leave early. Now, I just need to get it moved from outside Bisbee to here, about 110 miles.
