fantastic effect - outside the border - plus the light shading of the background characters - wonderful

Stan Lee always spoke highly of Maneely, said he was well on his way to being a star in the industry.

..... Maneely's favorite genre was the western. His daughter still has some of the original art. He was really getting creative at the end of his life. I too am a huge fan of the thin line background effect. He used it in Yellow Claw, Black Knight, and Speed Carter liberally. I'd heard his interiors on Ringo Kid are especially inspired... but I've yet to see for myself. GOD BLESS....

P.S. Mike(Scrooge) has forgotten more about Atlas westerns than I'll ever know. He's a fan of Chuck Miller.... a regular Atlas contributor.... but I'd be interested in his opinion of who is especially worthwhile as far as art goes..... naturally Heath and Williamson need no mention......

Posted this earlier.... but this is an xample of Severin borrowing Maneely's thin line background approach. Maneely was the first person I recall putting it to such dramatic effect.... GOD BLESS.....

That's not the kind of Atlas book I usually pick up, but I thought the cover was fun.

I like the thin line backgrounds also and they always make me think of Maneely.

This is one of my favorite Severin covers and it's a beaut of a copy.

Cross posting for these, but this is the best place. Picked these up recently at the Boston Con.

Great pick-up! I really like the Uncanny Tales 56, especially the lower tier. It's simple but it works for me!
