WOMEN IN COMICS

While looking through my PRICE GUIDES I found that issue #8 (1978-1979) contained, besides the cover, an entire section

on WOMEN IN COMICS, that broke them down into categories .

-Women As Non-Principals

-Women As Principals (General)

-Women As Decoration

-Women As Principals (Sexy)

-Women As Principals   (Love Comics)

-Women As Costumed Heroines

I though this was an interesting way of grouping titles but then there could be a cross-over issue where a book might fall into

more than one category.

When I bought this, I always wondered why Ward picked on Phantom Lady and put her bondage.  I thought he should have put a male figure or hero in bondage and have the ladies coming to save him.

This was my fourth guide. Still have all of them.

Probably to make the late great Matt Baker proud:

Years ago Bill Ward was doing some signings somewhere in Hollywood. A friend of mine wanted to go so I tagged along. Interesting guy; let’s just say he was obsessed with drawing woman. His published comics work was like Good Housekeeping compared to what he had on hand!
