Hubba Hubba show your "Girly" Pulps!

A new one - and really more of a romance title than a girlie, but these pulps (Breezy Stories, Snappy Stories, Live Stories, Droll Stories, Saucy Stories) get tied to the girlie pulps because of their cover art.  Of course, the girlie pulps share a lot of authors with the love pulps as well as readers believe it or not, so there's that -

UK girlie pulps?  I believe I've already posted some pirate jobbers from the 30s.  These are closer to 1950.  Usually they're given some sort of U.S. cost denotation so that the limeys would think they are getting something particularly naughty  There's little illustration inside and not much in the way of photos.

The staples are usually rusted because it rains all the damn time.  The couple of times I shipped to the UK last year, both buyers asked to make sure the package was water tight, something I'd never, ever heard before. :roflmao:

Genre-wise, they seem to lean more towards straight romance than sex comedy, but I'd have to read more before I can get categorical with that presumption.

Usually the art is a little more primitive than the U.S. girlies, but I have seen a gem or two.  This is a restore.  The mag was in almost pristine condition outside of the rusted staple (pretty sure I recall there only being one)

That one exists in higher numbers than most, some sort of warehouse find.  I'm looking at a copy right now on eBay WITH RUSTED STAPLES (and water damage) lmao.

Great get (you b*stard), worked with this one at Flickr, from the placard:

According to Doug Ellis' Uncensored: The Hidden Art of the Girlie Pulp, this issue was banned in New England and the circulation director of the magazine was sentenced to 6 months in jail (commuted to a $1000 fine).

Why the poor circulation director should take the fall is beyond me but a common story in obscenity cases wherein lower figures on the magazine totem pole were persecuted in the stead of the actual publishers.

Meanwhile, a nude Eve is selling copies like Hotcakes.

New one. Ten dollar pulp! Split spine/separated cover, but all there and a scarce girlie.  Perfect for scanning (which I'm just about to do while I watch last weekend's fights).  The cover is going to be a bear to work with between the soiled oranges and skin tones, damage to the logo, tape and tears and creases, but we shall see...Ideally, you pair a beater copy for the cover to cover scan with a high grade copy for the cover restore but that's rarely an option in the girlie pulps when finding one copy in any condition is hard enough in the first place :yeehaw:

Got a well appreciated tip from one of the coolest guys on the boards. He knows I collect vintage magazines with Surfer Girls on them. He had told me about this one but I figured I had near zero chance at finding this 1923 issue. I immediately jumped on it.(very unlikely I will ever see another). Muchos gracias amigo! This one has found it’s forever home!

Yeah, pretty nice shape.  This group of books from Frank Armer (Broadway Nights, Real Story Book, Ginger Stories) are pretty charming with good content but the cover stock is kind of rough, and the production values in general weren't very high. I've got this ish with really popping colors which would be a real gem minus the corner creases.  And who am I kidding it's a gem anyways, I don't mind a little imperfection in my girlies.  *insert wife joke here*

This one was discovered between the floorboards of a house during a renovation of a house built the same year as publication, wicked pocket crease and all.  Dirty carpenter :D

Physically beat and mangled, but really not too shabby for a yellow cover.

Woken up this morning to a lady from down the street with an open box of some new pulps, and a weird look on her face.  The only book whos cover was visible was a film fun annual, but in this area thats basically hardcore porn.  Mailman missed my house by a quarter of a mile 😆
