I never claimed to be a the target. As I said, I don't think most of the posters in the Golden Age section of the CGC boards are the target. My concern is that Valiantman keeps trying to sell the concept to those of us here who are longtime knowledge collectors, and he is trying to sell it by trying to appeal to our collector sensibilities. I have no issue with the concept of fractional commoditization of collectibles. But I do think it is a colossal waste of time to try to sway the mindset of this specific section of the hobby. Time could be much better spent having the same conversation in some of the Facebook comic groups.

I get it... it does seem like he's "selling" the concept".   But no different than other posters and other things other boardiess have felt strongly about here. I mean, the conversation parallels so many others we have read amd/or participated in where someone had a "dumb" idea thats so off the charts based on all the collecting, buying and discussing of comics we have all done for 20-50 years.  Thats why I see echoes in the arguments by posters here adamantly opposed to it as we (all?) were against slabbing our comics 20 years ago.  New ideas dont always seem obvious or necessary, and certainly not welcome especially when introduced by an upstart for profit organization like Rally Rd.

I dont see any personal gain for him except for personal satisfaction, as I think he's mainly interested in the real world manifestation of an concept that occurred to him years ago.... and would love for it to be mainstream AND beneficial financially to other collectors.

and yes, if it sounds like a dumb idea, I see your point that its tedious to keep fighting windmills in a hostile crowd like the Golden Age section...  you guys are the smartest, savviest collectors in the world!

added blatant butt kissing at the end....

gee.  guess I didnt have to change the ending to soften you up! lol

The butt kissing should be reserved for whichever end investor(s) rides this great white whale comic with you.

The mind-boggling litigation that might arise with disagreement over "sell strategies" for profits or losses is something that would keep the finest legal minds in the country up nights (...looking over blueprints for their new vacation homes).  The very idea of time-sharing comics is a nightmare Boris Karloff couldn't narrate.

From my POV, the only way this kind of cockamamie scheme could work is if several folks got together to make a purchase at the same time with pre-determined strategy and a written agreement to either sell at a given point or allow one shareholder or the others to buy their share for a predetermined amount.

BTW, sharing comics isn't actually a new idea.  Some dealers have done this in the past.  Usually it's when a large sum cash investment is required to acquire a collection.  Collections can be divided up. These deals usually turn out fine, but the practice hasn't caught on widely.

When you're talking about a single book, that's a thoroughbred of a different pedigree. There is no Solomon-esque way of dividing a key high dollar book or determining the most promising manner of divesting shared interest that will appeal to everyone.  My long-winded two cents (re-invested).

Except that this is a topic I started.  The only Don Quixotes in this thread are the ones who feel the need to continue replying against me in my own topic.  It's like they're standing in my living room and telling me to stop talking so much in here. (shrug)

The exits are clearly marked.

The people blaming me for the mess are the same ones getting schwifty.

Or...it could be because the first thread hyping Rally Rd. went 20+ pages before being locked - with you being the near-singular cheerleader there.

And the recent action over the past year has been in the 2nd primary hype thread, in Comics General.

Quick - strike while the iron is hot - start one in Silver!

Nope.  This topic was silent for over a year and I didn't revive it.

This was probably said earlier, but he is definitely getting something out of keeping this thread alive, because the more board members he persuades to become fractional investors the more likely his fractional investment will increase in value.  He's advertising, sowing seeds.  Otherwise he would have let this tired thread die months ago.  But that's his prerogative.

Nah - when a single poster makes up 20% of all posts in a thread, and makes multiple threads about it, it's a different animal.

And (apologies for quoting myself a full year later, but):

None of this is as solid an investment plan as Comic Book Coin...backed by... Avengers Annual # 7.

(Still one of the best threads here ever):

I'm just here to laugh at anyone who thinks this isn't just a weird form of gambling. Congrats, you bought X amount of tickets to say you think the price of a comic book you don't own will go up (and only get your prize money if someone buys it for that amount).

It's a combination of online betting markets and the International Star Registry.

For comparison, the International Star Registry is probably the dumbest idea ever... and still kickin' after 41 years.  How old is your shop?

I am still selling time at my time share, available in 1 minute increments.  For just $25/minute you to can brag to your friends about your place in Aspen but act now, we are very limited in how many minutes are left.

That figures to what $1,500 /hour? There are probably some high end escorts who would pay that to use the place if it is nice enough.
