The idea of ever borrowing on any form of credit to buy them seems nuts. Money has never been so 'cheap' as it is now. I'm sure there are MANY people borrowing to make purchases in all fields. I bought solid stocks and invested my 401K and IRA in blue chip stock. And I have held on to it. I did not take dividends but instead reinvested it into more stock. I am just not a gambler. It has paid off well for me and I now have a very comfortable retirement. The other key to this is to be careful what I spend my money on. I paid off all my debt and owe nothing than a small morgage. I can now take some vacations, help my kids and live a comfortable life. As far as collecting goes, I have always collected what I like and never paid more than I felt comfortable paying. It has always been a self supporting hobby. I sell stuff to pay for what I buy. Never took money out of our household account unless I could pay it back quickly. I have sold comics and collectibles on occasion to buy my first house, other real estate and put my kids through school. I have also sold stuff to buy a half a dozen vintage electric guitars, a couple vintage motorcycles and a vintage truck. All of which I could easily sell if need be. I really have more than enough “stuff” than I really need. I can’t for the life of me, think that going into debt to buy comics or other stuff at today’s prices is a very smart idea. I will most likely, like the vast number of collectors, be one of those kids looking through the candy store window in amazement at the “Promise Collection”. But you never know. With 5K books, there is bound to be a little low hanging fruit... This is me. I'm maybe on a smaller scale but still, it is how I've managed money throughout my life. Bought comics that I liked, hopefully got a "Deal" on them, and used my 401k to invest in stocks. The returns on many of the comics I bought in the 80 and 90s are spectacular and way outdo my 401k performance. I love my comics but I do see a time when I will sell them and cash out. I had to sell some good'uns here recently to fund a new house and a move. Fortunately, the books I sold performed so well relative to what I paid for them I only had to sell half of what I had planned on selling. Once I sell my other house, if I do, I will go pick up a few that I sold; if I can buy them for less than I just sold them. If not, c'est la vie. That is life. I will use the money to buy some other comic book deal and I will be happy. I really hope I am able to buy into the Promise collection. There are a few books I am going to bid upon; some are easy to guess, some might surprise. No matter what though, this is an exciting collection to watch being brought to market! szucchini, comicjack, ThothAmon and 2 others

As do CGC, Comic Connect and some other dealers I know. I probably should have said 'images' as opposed to scans but old habits die hard. One disadvantage to scanners is that they take a while to scan each book, which is fine if you're scanning a few books for your personal collection but if you're scanning 1000's of books every month for inventory the time adds up. Still, the differences in representation are easy to see. Some auction houses use darker images than the actual books and some lighter. It's a challenge to image books properly. Spending at the top of the market weather comics or stocks is not sound “investing”. Unless you can afford to wait years to break even or make a profit. Especially if you have to go in debt to do it... szucchini and jimbo_7071

"Wait and see' is what a number of collectors are gonna do and if this collection was say 1500 books the chances of you getting a few to slip thru the cracks would have been greatly reduced. We are, according to ha.com, over 5000 OO GA comic books coming on the market over 18 months. For those of you who are patient, rewards could very well become reality...lets see, I’m willing to wait and see. I would like at least one of these for my pedigree collection for historical purposes. But at the end of the day, I can die happy without one if need be. jimjum12

I think the PL17, Tec 140, AA61, Tec 69, +Cap 46 alone total 700k or so, and if not there’s easily 10-20 other books that’ll go in the 25-50k range to add to that. I would be surprised if the first 300 books did not average out above $10K each. I would expect these 300 books to get a higher total price than the Billy Wright collection of 300+ did. Yeah, Billy Wright had a D27, Action 1, Batman 1, AA 16, MC 1, D29, Adventure 40, Subby 1, All-Star 3, etc., but the D27 was the only book to make it above $300K. Only six BWs made it to six figures. Many many BWs were only four figure books. It was nine years ago. Prices have blown out the roof since then.
