Call me old fashioned, but if I owned a chat forum that had thousands of loyal members who, perhaps against the odds, had kept it going for 20 years when everyone else had buggered off to Facebore, and whose activities generated millions of global views for my product, I would occasionally pop in and let people know what was going on. Something along the lines of "Hey guys, so sorry about the recent access problems - someone pressed the wrong button...(grimace emoji)" would go a long way I feel, and would make people feel part of a community. It would make them feel that they weren't being ignored or taken for granted. "Hey guys, big Invision update coming next Wednesday, so bear with us as it may be a rocky ride - even with the best planning we never know how things will go, but rest assured we'll be on it if there are any unexpected problems". Easy isn't it. Takes seconds.

Ask yourself this - if your forum went down for the best part of two days, would you either:

A) Communicate with your members when it was back up and running with suitable apologies and explanations

or

B) Not

Meanwhile, Josh Brolin will sign your comics for a $250 fee. Isn't that just brilliant!?

Come on, get submitting! :)

If only they had a forum where you could ask questions!

Now maybe they are reading up to learn to fix it!

Chapter 1: Turning it off and on again

I've mentioned in other threads that CGC staff are hugely reliant on the software provider, Invision, and many of the technical and access problems are out of their control. My issue is the lack of direct communication about it. A bit more would help I think. I made that point again, yesterday behind the scenes, and I'm going to try very very hard now to leave it at that.

3 mouse clicks, 10 "500 errors" - what is happening to these boards? I could barely use the search function to find others were having the same issue....

It happens at the same time every single day. Nobody is doing anything about it, it appears nobody who can, is bothered.

Nope, I can't leave it

Hi @dena 24 minute outage just now:

Capture.thumb.PNG.c53a2d64231c81254756afee7a6e9aeb.PNG

It happens every day around the same time and has been going on for weeks. I had an email chat with Brittany about it the other day - is there anything further you can tell us? Should we all avoid this time for the foreseeable, or is there a fix on the horizon?

I nearly lost a post about pence copies and we can't have that, surely?

30 minute outage just now:

Every day the same now it seems :p

I tagged Dena on Monday but she hasn't logged on to the site since the 22nd of June. Maybe she's on holiday. There's no one else on the admin team to ask that I'm aware of - at least who responds to questions outside of the 'Ask CGC' forum, anyway.

Going above admin, based on our email discussion last week, Brittany thinks CGC are doing a good job of communicating to us about the Invision issues. Not sure why, but you can't keep emailing them about it so there's nowhere to go really is there.

We'll just have to lump it and avoid the site for an hour around this time until something changes I suppose. Or we could go outside and get a life hm

Ah, you gotta laugh haven't you...

Why is the site still glitchy?

Problems with Invision, the host, I'm told.

They're apparently looking for a new one, so get ready for 'I Hate the New Boards Part II' if they do....

Caught me as I was sending a PM, luckily it saved my text. It did tell me I should be in bed at this hour, but well, you can see how that turned out.

That's one of the good things about the software - it normally saves whatever you were in the process of creating if the site suddenly goes down. Not always, but more often than not. Now, go to bed.
