Isn't it time for CGC to stop calling books from 1975 Moderns?

An admin reached out to CGC a year and a half ago to aid in setting cutoff points in the FS area.  This is the response.

We reached out about age breakdowns to an appropriate person at CGC, as we know the community has varying opinions about when ages begin and end.

The dates we received were the following:

  • Golden/Silver/Bronze ages would go up through 1979.
  • Copper/Modern ages would begin with 1980.

Example 3:

  • 1828 – 1892: Victorian Age
  • 1883 – 1938: Platinum Age
  • 1938 – 1945: Golden Age –  Action Comics #1
  • 1946 – 1956: Atom Age –  Fear of the Bomb
  • 1956 – 1971: Silver Age  –  Showcase #4
  • 1971 – 1985: Bronze Age  – Death of Gwen Stacy (Amazing Spidey #121)
  • 1986 – 1992: Copper Age  – DC’s Crisis on Infinite Earths
  • 1992 – 1999: Chrome Age  – Chrome Age – Image Comics Debuts
  • 2000 – present: Modern Age

Even if we take 2000 as the beginning of MODERN it is still the longest age (besides platinum).
There may be a new age having to be named or what we considered MODERN will have to be renamed something else.
Perhaps the MCU / Rampant Speculation Age...

I prefer this one

Even "Modern" art has given way to "Contemporary" art and "modern" music from 20 years ago is now categorized as "classic" hits.
There needs to be an evolution.
It will take a consortium of dealers to make Overstreet address this.
Then perhaps CGC will follow suit.

In my over 35 years of being into comics I never ever have referred to comics as silver age or golden age and especially not bronze age. I always thought those were so stupid sounding and I will never use those terms. they are just comics there are no eras. it makes no sense to split things up like that. a comic is just a comic from whatever year it was published.

modern age should never be used they should stick with metals.
I mean say 2000 and above are called modern.  Now imagine its the year 2080.

It refers to the size of the comic and really has nothing to do with age. Take a comic from December of 74 and January of 75. Compare the sizes.

But just call it something else then.  Iron age or something.

It has already been mentioned.

Just go by size for each tier.

They could really dumb it down and make it.
