New guy here.  Finally decided to open the box of comics I've been storing in my closet for 40+ years and sending a couple dozen to CGC, but I had a few questions and posted in the "Can you spare a grade" discussion, but that was over an hour ago and neither of my two posts has been approved by a moderator yet, just wondering if maybe I did something wrong or is that normal and I just need to be patient?  Thanks, Joe in NY

I see your posts in the "Can you spare a grade" section. Moderators don't need to approve every post.

Seems like you're doing great so far! Welcome to the boards.

also, the timing of moderator approvals can vary.

Maybe 5 years ago, bots showed up and started about 1000 spam  threads in Chinese,  in a few hours.  2 moderators couldn't ban the id's fast enough.  Actually, it went on for at least a few days.   Lately, there have been a few id's with 100's of links for escort services.

Aww.  Well shucks :)

No really thanks for the warm welcome.  I see already I'm in trouble because overnight I've gone from "hey maybe it's time to start selling my comics I've kept for 40 years" to suddenly "hey, when I was a kid I REALLY liked comics, and who woulda thunk it . . .  I still do . . ."  Can't say adam p. didn't try to warn me. Really a shame that 10 year old me was smart enough to hang on to the comics, but not smart enough to keep from loving them a little too much.  My quick look through my 220 or so books and I think maybe 3 or 4 have a shot at 9.8.  The rest are pretty solid 4-7 and a handful of 7+.  Ah well it's fun catching up after 40 years.

Thanks again guys!!

Exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about.  Have had many books come back 9.8 with not only those "imperceptible" flaws, but totally naked-eye perceptible ones as well.  I think he's on the right track making an honest and harsh evaluation of his collection, but I wouldn't just give up because a bunch of people said my books weren't 9.8s.  Pick the best ones and give it a try.  It's not that expensive to get a definitive answer.  Just my 2c

What, being realistic?

Have the PGM forum and the restoration forum to learn from.

Learn what grade scale CGC uses and go from there. Only way to see what CGC grades is to send it in and find out.

My experiences haven't made me a pessimist, rather I've learned a lot about the grading process from it.

Flippers however....
