Valiants mentioned in the 2003 Overstreet market reports

187 posts in this topic

I'm not against the Valiant books, but it's quite obvious (if it wasn't before) that Valiantman is interested in hyping the book's value instead of the 'story lines".

It's like 1991-2 Wizard all over again...

All that being said, whether he is hyping them or not, there's a demand out there for them, and pre-Unity Valiants are hard to find, especially Harbinger and Rai. Magnus and Solar notsomuch, probably because they were retcons of existing characters.

Rai is my second favorite, behind X-O. I just need a 31 and 33 to fill the run . . . .

BTW - I was very surprised to see the 1-32 auction from Zillaf going for $100!!! I was able to get two sets of Rai 1-20 and then 1-32, both of which were under $40 earlier in the year (I want to say Feb?)

There's no way it's like that.

This time:

1) There's no product rolling off the presses. It's all second-hand,

it's all at least 7 to 12 years old...there are no more surprises (good or bad).

2) There's no media coverage at all. Overstreet has a couple comments

in the market report, but the prices in their guide are basically cover price,

and Wizard doesn't list the books at all.

3) There is so much negativity towards Valiant (take you, for example) that

without those amazing stories, art, and overall quality, there's no way anyone

would "believe" anything said on a fan site about those books.

One fan site does not outweigh media snubbing, collector disdain, and bad memories.

But the books speak for themselves.

Not all of them, obviously...but the pre-Unity issues are QUALITY.

Anyone who collects comics could add a stack of the 50 pre-Unity books

to their "regular re-read" stack and be glad they did.

My reader stack, not surprisingly, is right next to my computer.

Bent corners, spine rolls, and all. Good Stuff!

Wow. This is really the thread that would not die... sort of like Valiant comics.

I'm so proud. Even though I have all of the issues I re-read my Unity TPB boxed set pretty regularly.

From a pure speculation point of view, the Valiant books are probably a much better buy at this point in time relative to the Modern books which everybody is trying to speculate on at this point in time. This is especially true for all of the Ultimate books, Orgins, Transformers, and whatever the latest fad is. I wouldn't be surprised if all of these latest HOT books are also back at cover price within the next couple of years.

Speculators have such a short memory and never seem to learn from their mistakes as evident by the Valiant books, Death of Superman, Image books, bad girl books, etc. My advice to you is to stay as far away from anything that Wizard deems to be hot because their only purpose appears to be to inflict short-term hype (unrealistic high prices) and long-term despair (unsellable books)

Modern books should ONLY be bought purely for reading purposes because they will rarely be able to retain or appreicate in value in the long run relative to the older books.

Just my own point of view!!! makepoint.gif

I never really got into Valiants because I found out about them too late. I got turned off by the fact that early issues were going for over a $100 and they were hyping all these special edition foil cover comics. That is what turned me off to Valiant. I may check some of them out if I see them in the bargain bin to see if they have any good stories.

I thought Defiant was kind of cool but we did not see enough of them since Marvel killed them with their BS lawsuit.

As far as investing goes, I think the Valiants will take off the next time they make a Solar or Magnus series or whatever your pick is from the Valiant universe. Just remember the original Magnus series didn't go way up in Value until Valiant brought it back from the dead. It may be awhile though until that happens.

yea, after all this time, they still suck

This quote from a guy with a Bruce Springsteen avatar.

I know he's considered a legend and all...

but I can't be the only one who thinks he's constipated in EVERY song.

One box of Ex-Lax and the guy would have been done after the first album.

Show me a better comic book for $2 than ANY pre-Unity Valiant issue,

and I'll show you a song by Bruce Springsteen that requires a talented voice.

Back to the topic at hand...

There's no way that early Valiant comics could have sold for $100

because of hype alone.

Everybody and their grandmother knew about and hyped Image books

at the same time and they never passed $5 to $20.

There had to be more to it than hype.

Regardless, most of those same books that once cost $100

are now available on Ebay for $1 to $10.

I'd say early Valiant books are now "no risk great reads".

How many other 1990's books can make that claim?

(Notice I said "early Valiant books"...there were no special foil covers,

chromium cards, or 500,000 print runs in the early Valiant books.

If you've tried Turok #1 or Bloodshot #1, you haven't tried early enough.)

Definitely, and I wish those specs with stacks of Valiants (and hoping for a major price resurgence/cash-out) would drop the charade.

I have a lot of "favorite comics" too, but I don't run around here beating everyone on the head to buy them. Then again, if I had a few longboxes of [!@#%^&^] I wanted to blow off...

Just for the record...

The Grand Total of Valiant Comics FOR SALE at ValiantComics.com is.... ZERO.

I'm buying, though. So...what was your point again?

(Note to self: Joe's skull may be adamantium, but unfortunately it's hollow inside.)

That you're either a brain-dead speculator or a religious Valiant cult-member hoping for more recruits.

Take yer pick.

And...you are...?

(I forgot, what's the point of your existence?)

(And why would you continue to post on this thread that you hate?)

Those who CAN... create.

Those who CAN'T... become negative blowhards who post 40 times about nothing.

(For those of you just joining us...that's no exaggeration...

Joe has posted 40 times.....40 TIMES in this thread.

All those posts, and you'd think there'd be a valid point in there somewhere.

Sadly, there's not....unless this counts: "Joe doesn't like Valiant"...

WHOOP-DEE-FRICKIN'-DOO!)

So what does this have to do with your constant hyping of a long-dead line of overspeculated comics?

Oh wait, you're a blowhard, right?

The president of Acclaim has just resigned. The company is under investigation by the SEC for the second time in three years. One of the few analylist still following the stock feels that time has pretty much run out. When will the Valiant property be back on the market? Maybe sooner than most think.
