I disagree with this assessment. Just because a hobby now costs more than it once did, that does not preclude it from still being classified as a hobby. You want a cheap hobby that never goes up? Start a rock collection! Lots of inventory out there and 99.99999999999999% of it is free!

Where can I buy rocks with crypto though?

Actually, rocks have gone up over the years. Go check the historical price of valuable minerals as collectables. They have gone up. Some, by a lot. Mind you, I still think this is a hobby, but when people treat it mainly as a business opportunity, it drives out a lot of those who consider it fun.

 Nitpicking on the 20 year estimate aside, I think most grasp the idea that when prices in general moved to a certain threshold it was a business.

You know that it's a business when there's extensive discussion of earning thresholds and IRS implications...

Sounds like fractional ownership is an option.

I believe the term among geologists is 'fragmented ownership'

With rock speculation rampant and the concept of fragmented ownership taking hold, the conditions are ripe for a very literal pyramid scheme.
