Not a film most of us would typically enjoy, but I was hopeful just knowing Greta Gerwig directed it.  Looks like it turned out much better than I would have guessed.  Wasn't looking forward to it, but now I am.

2. Yes, but tolerable if not woke-critical at times or at least a small window was opened to allow in some fresh air. This movie was about men & women and the dolls who represent them. For example, if you're allergic to the trans item, then you might find it conspicuous in its absence. I've long considered myself a feminist. This film brought the feminism. I just googled to find a snippet of dialogue I wanted to share to support my claim. I didn't find the snippet but I did find a raging intra-woke Barbie debate across many mainstream URLs. This literature's chockablock with an entire Webster's Dictionary of technical, academic, nonsense jargon deployed by angry thinkers to cloak their angry thinking in pseudo-intellectual sophistication. Radical social theorists thrive on the confusions they can exploit in both traditional ways of thinking and in competing avant-garde social theories. In this sense, every radical social theorist's efforts at hegemony is doomed to failure by the very nature of their project. This also accounts for the persistence of tradition, in this case the persistent, traditional, venerable Barbie Doll.            

3. Yes, Hollywood can't help itself. When it needs to write-funny in a children's film, it makes sex jokes.

The movie was a success. Gosling was terrific. Robbie lovely. All seats sold. There was real energy with the audience, nearly all of whom dressed-up for the show. I can't recall such energy for a theater movie without going back to the original Star Wars days. Today's Star Wars doesn't come close. Certainly the same with the post-pandemic MCU. Barbie comes to our cultural rescue & does it without car chases, fistfights, gunfights, explosions, or massive, swirling, dizzying, CGI-greenscreen cartoon set pieces. The climax of the film is a quiet conversation between two characters.

I think I'll pass on this one. (But then again, one of my all-time favorite films is the original 12 Angry Men.)
