RedFyrn
Hey all, I mostly deal in vintage cards, but have been getting into comics as of late. I've never submitted a book for grading before so I'd appreciate any advice on the grading process and how I should move forward. And, of course, what do we think this will grade? Thanks! scburdet
IMO with a book of this significance you definitely want to get it graded regardless of the condition. To me, this looks like a 1.5 or 1.8 at present. But since it is FF1, it might be preferable to have a professional do cleaning and restoration. Even with a qualified grade, it would command a healthy price. I'd definitely give you a crisp $10 bill in its current condition 🙂 KCOComics and RedFyrn
Deutero
I’d say 2.0 or 2.5 based on the cover alone. Would be good to see what condition the internal pages and staples are in, if you fancy updating your post with some extra pics. A clean and press would definitely be of benefit. Popular Post zzutak
One of the most desirable Silver Age keys. High-value books like this (about $15~20 k in CGC 2.0 GD) are much easier to sell if they've been certified/encapsulated by CGC. This is especially true if the seller is relatively new to the hobby. I personally don't see much soiling that could be removed with a non-restorative dry cleaning. The generalized toning to the back cover and tidelines along the top/bottom edges of the front/back covers are not going to be reduced/removed with a dry cleaning. And a pressing will not fix the missing chips/pieces, the 1" spine split, the various edge tears, the heavy color-breaking creasing, or the extensive water/food/fingerprint stains. A pressing may correct the mild stacking curl, but the defects I'm seeing suggest to me that a pressing could also lead to additional damage (specifically, additional edge chips, a longer spine split, or even a partially detached cover). One man's opinion. grendelbo, Albert Thurgood, The Lions Den and 3 others

Tank the Dog
A 1.8 to 2.0, with a maybe a gentle press from someone very experienced - mostly to keep those edge pieces from folding over, etc. a press will likely make it look a bit nicer in a slab, but it won’t likely affect the grade in this case. Awesome book! A grail that kept getting away, and now it’s too expensive for me these days.
