*Though, if they get Mr. Simonson to do another signing it is possible I might crack and submit to that one.  I am weak.

These were in consideration for being sent in someday, but, currently I don't see that happening*

You can remove the allegations qualifier from the pay for grades part until CGC makes a public statement about the situation. There is simply no other explanation for that.

I was worried that without the "allegation" qualifier that the mods might shut the post down so I just erred on the side of caution by being more accusatory instead of making a potentially libel statement.

Nice book.  I'm looking for a raw copy myself.  I bought what I thought was a REALLY clean copy which I had signed by Stan and Al Milgrom (I think).  It came back like a 6.0 and the graders notes said "subscription crease".  I have no idea what that means as there are no color breaking creases.

I probably should add that, unlike the OP, I’m NOT waiting a 3rd party grading alternative.

CGC as the “industry leader” has clearly shown us where this thing eventually leads, and I think it would be naïve to think this wouldn’t happen with another grading company. There’s just too much money being thrown around.

I went from 3 boxes of CGC comics and growing down to one.  I think I’m probably pretty much done with 3rd party grading in particular and have been turned off of comics in general…at least for the time being.

It's weird, I've had a bit of the same thing.  I frequent the comicbookcollecting sub on reddit pretty frequently, but every since C2E2, less so.  I had stopped buying variants before everything blew up, but the entire incident has given me a greater disdain for variants than before.  I get it, people like the art.  Like I said, I bought variants pretty frequently in the past (I mean, I even posted a pic of one).  But this feels like a breaking point to me.  What's sad is the reason why I like slabs is because it makes it easier for someone to value their big books without fear of getting ripped off.  If I have to start explaining why two universal books suddenly don't mean the same thing, then that sort of defeats the purpose of grading for me.

Then again, the reason why I haven't been on the comicbookcollecting sub could also be because keeping up with that C2E2 thread was like having a second job.  :kidaround:

all buisnesses make mistakes and poor choices. Sorry, but I'm still a fan of their product

Do all businesses lie to their customers about their mistakes and poor choices?

Also, I am 100% a fan of their product. I abhor the company.

I know this lot is meant for grading, but how are those old BOTP comics? Are the stories any good by today's standards, or the standards of the time?

I quit sending books to CGC last Nov. Since I have not and do not sell comics I decided why wait 8-15 months to get them back and why let CGC damage more of my books.

I have, make that HAD 7 magazine* sized boxes full of books I triaged and were waiting for submittal; 20% Silver/40% Bronze/40% Copper - 292 books to be precise that I would have sent 25-50 each month from Nov 2021 - July 2023, not that Blackrock/CGC could care less.

Will I ever submit those books? I do not know. My guess is as long as Blackrock owns them Q/C dept will not be re-instated or be staffed to actually do proper work AND CGC if continues to sell grades I will not send them any more of my books to manhandle.   To think just a few years ago i used to "champion" CGC, man was i naive.  A metaphorical double bird flip to the parent company of CGC for what they have done.

*= I use Silver/Gold Mylars and magazine boxes work nicely with my custom soft food inserts on the sides.

No pics as I now have those 7 boxes formally designated for CGC submission nicely stored away. Next time I have them out I take pics, assuming CGC has not deleted this thread by then.

That’s a tough question to answer.

If you’re asking ME what I personally think of them, I think they have certain charm, the Mortimer art is decent and serviceable, but I also go into it understanding what they are: a comic book adaptation aimed at children of a children’s cartoon that was further whitewashed and dumbed down for American child audiences.

If you’re asking how I think these hold up to modern comic books - understanding that I’m not a fan of moderns and stopped reading them a long time ago - suffice to say I don’t think these would hold up for someone  whose more acclimated to moderns.

The people who are paying hundreds for the first issue are doing so solely for movie spec, I have a hard time imagining any one of them actually having an inkling of an interest to read it.

A few years ago, one of the publishers (IDW? Top Cow? Image? I can’t remember) did a TPB reprint of the GK issues. I think it’s OOP but think it’s probably still an affordable enough way to sample the content.

Thanks, that was exactly what I was after, and I'll keep an eye out for that tpb. That's exactly what I want.
