This is really disingenuous.

I clarified (on multiple occasions) that I have nothing against him as a person, that he has an admirable collection and he clearly loves the art an the hobby. And judging Felix's post & picture in this thread, he's clearly a good person. Not too many people show up to wish people happy birthday with a cake, gifts and a positive spirit.

However, he's not incapable of unfavorable behavior or free from criticism.

No one person should be allowed to abuse a feature, appearing 10:1 against the entirety of the collecting community in comments on other user's art [in a self-admitted attempt to drive traffic to their own gallery]. Concern and disapproval of his behavior from other CAF users was what prompted my post to begin with. The only hate on my end was in relation (and only in relation) to the frequency of having to see his user icon below everyone else's art. When looking at art on the site, seeing anything as frequent as that feels akin to receiving spam. And yes, we clarified his comments aren't spam.

There was plenty of nastiness and hatred from many others towards me, which (from what I could tell) resulted in no repercussions for anyone else, which is disappointing considering other behavior. Only a few were able to engage about the topic without being condescending or making it personal. So people like Felix will still make extreme stances rooted in sarcasm with no degree of nuance, and that's their right.

It appears we will continue to use CAF as is, the world will go on, and I'll have to put up with seeing his user icon that links to his gallery on virtually all the new pieces I see posted.

I'm glad you're seeing both sides of it.

Yes, one can argue he comments too much, but at the end of the day its harmless, and it gives some people the attention they want, and as you said, there's always at least some thought to his posts.    Its not spam or thoughtless drivel or what have you.

I think you're taking the right approach in letting it go.    Too much of anything can get on one's nerves, but this isn't the hill to die on when it comes to boardie or CAF behavior.    At the end of the day, he's really not doing anything wrong IMO.   He's just doing it a lot.    IMO there's more good than bad here.

I am genuinely happy to hear this. I like many of his comments (and have received some myself, some I like some I roll my eyes) but I guess I’ll slowly try to get over that last part.

I speak for myself when I say that I appreciate comments on my art that have more than just 1 word on them but even those 1 word comments make it worth having published the art on CAF, even if I remove it a day later.

I am definitely on the "Marcus Rocks" bandwagon. His comments are always appreciated and enjoyable - both on my own art, and others. It sounds like I missed a thread about someone not liking his comments? Crazy if so. We have taken first world problems to a new level. Wow

I got my 1st comment from Marcus Wai post H8GateMuscleManthumbnailphotouglyBad2022 discussion.

It rocked!!!!

In fact so far it's the only comment on what I think is a really rad piece of art. That's what Marcus brings to the table. He pointed out cool things on the art that I saw but didn't point out to leave the comment section fresh for thoughts. He was respectful and positive.

We need to name an award for positive contributions to the OA hobby from a collector.

I'd like to nominate Marcus Wai for the first annual CGC/CAF MuscleMan of Peace Award.

He did in fact receive a 2022 CAF reward for the volume of his posts, but in the award ceremony, discussion was about the overall quality of his posts as well.

What actually was the controversial objection to Marcus and his postings? I find it hard to find fault someone for liking or commenting on other's pieces. Marcus has always had fun takes on most of my postings and sometimes it is just nice for someone to just give a word or two of approval.

My takeaway was that Marcus admitted to commenting heavily on newly listed pieces in order to drive traffic and new comments to his gallery. There was a minority (really just one individual) who said some percentage of his comments felt contrived because of the admitted self-promotion. Based on this thread though that’s why it’s the minority opinion.

Driving traffic to what? He has nothing for sale... has about 150 or so really nice pieces (that I never really looked at until now) on his CAF site, plus around 50 or so pictures that would be nice to see on these boards (Events page).

He is a passionate fan and I, for one, love his enthusiasm.
