YOUR first comic - do you still have it? Remember it?

My grandma bought us some old Disney stuff (Beagle Boys and Chip & Dale) when I was little, but I think she kept them at her house, and they finally disappeared at some point.  My brother had Star Wars 1-6 and Battlestar Galactica 1-3, but he never got into comics more than that.

The first comic I actually bought was GI Joe #7.  I still have it, and it's a beater, but it holds a special place in my heart.  :luhv:

My first Marvel was ASM #3. Saw it at the drug store and was hooked on Marvels from that time on.

Apparently you are a bit older than me, I love hearing those old time memories from collectors.

Summer of '79, my mother and I went to her friends house and waited for her and her son to come home.  While waiting I happened to notice a comic sitting on a table.  I found the name intriguing, not too mention the characters; one of which appeared to be wearing a pair of gloves with claws attached to them.  I drifted back and forth to the book and eventually picked it up to read.  The Uncanny X-Men 115 had me hooked right away!  I never looked back and jumped full throttle into the comic book world, there was nothing better!  Can't say I still have the first issue I bought, X-Men 120?  Ah, but those days....

Batman 642 was the first comic I ever purchased. I don't know what happened to the original copy, I believe it was lost in a move years later before I really got into collecting. When I was in college, I found another copy in a dollar box when I was attending a show, and immediately bought it. Not a rare book, but valuable to me.

Back in November 1963, my step grandfather was on his deathbed.  Believe it or not, I was a young boy back then.  To keep me out of trouble, I was given some of my Uncle’s old comics, including Avengers 2.  Here is my copy with my ugly initials.  Really love this book.  Have 8.0, but this copy is more valuable, even with the horrible Paul Reinman  inks over Kirby pencils.  I was so sad when the Hulk left the Avengers.☹️

Feb 1980 - FF 218 was the first Marvel I can recall selecting off the spinner rack at my local 7-Eleven. This is my original copy which, oddly, is a direct copy. I did buy it at 7-Eleven which means it should have been a newsstand copy with a barcode. I asked Steve Geppi for his explanation since the direct market was introduced in 1979 and he said it was still possible back then for retailers to buy direct (larger discount but no returns) or newsstand (some discount but able to return top 1/3 of cover for a credit on the next order). The FF218 could also have been left over unsold stock from another 7-Eleven or retailer that was resold to the new retailer.

I can recall being attracted to Spidey and the busy cover that determined my selection. I also had the opportunity to purchase one of the best OA pages from this book a few years ago. I love the Sandman/Electro last panel with interior pencils by John Byrne and inks by Joe Sinnott.

I think your initials on it are the least of it’s problems…:roflmao:

Most likely my first comics were of the Casper/Bugs Bunny/Richie Rich type and those are long gone.  I have an early Superman #275 that is beat to snot from when I was about 8. lol I certainly read that often. I'll try and dig it out.

I still have the cover!

I don't know what the first comic I purchased was.  To be truthful, I didn't read many of those first few comics either.  I was 8 years old and I followed the lead of my older brother who was a collector (Baseball and Hockey cards, comics and coins). A lot of his purchases went right to bag and board.  As a result, a lot of them stayed in a very nice condition and I eventually had them graded and signed.

Mine was Transformers #18, something around there. Not really an appropriate one for a little kid in hindsight. Worse, I had it twice, as I had both the Marvel US and UK versions, as we got both on the same news stand, and my mother obviously assumed they were different. I would have been about 4, maybe 5.

I don’t have anything left from my childhood collection. I don’t remember the first comic I owned, but I know I had a handful before I ever had any money to buy one. When I did get a quarter, this was my choice from the Shaver’s Supermarket comic rack.

I can see the reds :) I had Heman cake as a kid, I never could get into the show nor toys that much, but the memories last a lifetime :headbang:

I loves me three-toed early Hulk.
