Missing Interior Page from a CGC 5.0 Blue Label Book
5 5

46 posts in this topic

I recently purchased this CGC graded 5.0 Archie 47 (grader notes) from the board marketplace. I cracked it open (as I do with all books in my personal collection) and discovered it is missing the pin-up page (pg. 7-8) from the first story. You can see the jagged edges where it was cut out with scissors. Isn't a page count one of the most basic things that a grader should be doing when grading a book? Has this happened to anyone else and how does CGC take responsibility for these sorts of mistakes?

Present all your evidence completely and concisely, and notify cgc asap.

and ask to be made whole. Whether do or not who knows? I’m sure every situation is different.
good luck

Yes. I'm not sure how CGC is held accountable for such a dumb mistake, but their "guaranty" means literally nothing if they shirk responsibility.

Sad.   I'm not sure where the responsibility for counting pages lies with CGC (at Grading Step 4/7, or at some point upstream).  But I would personally be worried about the completeness of every other book from this submission (#1997454 dated 10-18-2018).  There are four other Archie issues that look like they may have come from the same original source (all 1950-52, all mid-grade 5.0~6.5, all with white pages).  hm   :wishluck:

I'm sorry to see that...I had a similar situation with a book I bought from PGX years ago, I never bought one again.

Here is the Guarantee...unfortunately the part about not opening the book, always made me think the guarantee is not really what we would like it to be.

Thanks for sharing the link to the guarantee. It looks like the "guarantee" is just that 2 professionals have reviewed it and that the comic book is not counterfeit. And of course, as you pointed out, it only applies to books still in the CGC holder. This hardly seems like any sort of guarantee at all. I understand they need to protect themselves from subjective disputes (e.g., "I think this is a 9.0 and not an 8.5") but there needs to be a policy for remedying situations where they clearly miss something and it has a disastrous impact on the grade. From my understanding this would either be a 0.5 Incomplete Blue Label or a Qualified 5.0 Green Label? I'll reach out to CGC and see what they can do.

This is pretty much the state of the “guaranty” in CGC’s name anymore.

And just when I've always considered the graders of the older books to be more thorough....sadly, with humans involved, I am sure this is not the only blue label book with something missing inside that exists out in the world.

I am wondering what one would expect CGC to do here? For me personally, I would expect them to compensate in some way the value that I had assumed in my purchase (even if they did so as a credit). For example, if I spent $500 on a book I thought was perfect and found it was not, and should have been labelled green, I would expect to at least get the value difference compensated. Preferably the whole amount because in all liklihood, I would not have purchased said book in the first place. At least with partial compensation, I can sell the green label to recoup my losses. Does this sound fair? Curious to see how CGC approaches it....

A company with great customer service at least should consider the customer's request when failure occurs and see where they can meet in some sort of resolution in between the max demand ("Give me my money back plus more!") and a failure to negotiate ("So sorry you are unhappy, too bad, goodbye!").
