Not too many months before my mother died, scientists made a discovery I found pretty comforting.  For all of human history, basically, the assumption by science was that the sole purpose of the umbilical cord was to provide nourishment to and remove waste for the baby. The discovery was that viewpoint was too limited. In fact, cells from the mother's body flow into the baby, and cells from the baby's body flow into the mother through the umbilical cord. This means, Mike, that even though she is gone, some of her will live on in you and some of you has always been with her.

Don't hesitate to ask this community for anything you think we might be able to provide in this difficult time.  You have more love and support than you realize.
