Looked like an oil stain to me. It isn't color transfer. The color is coming through from the other side.

Sometimes the ads inside have red ink, pops up on the front if the book was in a moist environment, which it obviously was because of the moisture stain on the right.

I under graded every book but, the Incredible Hulk 5. Yikes!

In the old days, the running joke around here was that "an eBaay VF" was generally closer to a CGC 5.0 VG/FN.  I hope I'm not around to see the day when the average eBaay seller is more conservative/strict than CGC.  :fear:

Oh wow, I did a ton better this time around!

Popular Comics #66 - 4.0 +1

Archie Comics #39 - 7.0   Bullseye!

Thing #15 - 3.0   +4 (whoops)

Incredible Hulk #5 - 1.5  Bullseye!

Marvel Spotlight #10 - 8.0  Bullseye!

5 points probably still isn't good enough to be near the top, but I feel a lot better about it than the last contest.

What did you drink before you submitted your grades?

Congratulations for improving your grade skill!

Thing #15 at CGC 5.0?  Seems a bit generous for a book with a corner piece out, oxidation tanning along the spine, a light subscription-type crease, and other blemishes.  hm  Note to self: remember to wear your beer goggles when grading the Round 2-4 selections.  :gossip:

I thought so too. That's why I gave it a 4.0.

Only one I was really off on was the Popular comics.  I hit it hard on the staining, obviously a little too hard.

Popular Comics #66 - 3.0 (4.5) -3
Archie Comics #39 - 7.0 (7.0) 0
Thing #15 - 4.5 (5.0) -1
Incredible Hulk #5 - 2.0 (1.5) -1
Marvel Spotlight #10 - 8.5 (8.0) -1

Do others think they were able to discern an 85% spine split on the Hulk?  See if you knew that your top grade would start at possibly 2.0 but more likely 1.8/1.5 max.  I went back and looked and I wasn't able to discern that.  What I'm getting at is certain major defects relegate a top grade and then you go down from there (or stay).  I'm happy with the contest and always enjoy it but up for discussion if you can't discern a significant defect from the scans should that not be divulged = level playing field for all so would be OK.  Obviously if there was a cutout interior pages or something Mike would divulge that...this seems similar to me in that regard. 2c

I gave it a 1.5, so it didn't stop me from giving it the right grade.

Well, have you ever actually checked out any of my listings? :baiting:

@CGC Mike Apologies if this was already covered, but is it possible these books were pressed after the original pictures were posted?  Only asking because on Hulk #5, the bottom left of the front cover had multiple pieces folded over, but once it got into the slab, the folds have been fixed.  Attached a picture for reference.  I had always assumed the books don't get manipulated after being received by CGC, unless of course it's also submitted for pressing.  Thoughts?

If the thoughts are for anyone?

I believe that if possible cgc does try to lay everything flat in a slab, or it has been my experience. I would assume to keep it from breaking off and down grading within the slab. I did have one book that it didn't happen, I think my star wars book, but idk if it depends on encapsulating person's mood or ???

I'll be interested in feedback, but was my experience.
