This thread will be super-awesome-entertaining right up until the moment when someone calls out a seller for redonculous grading and it turns out to be a boardie, resulting in much rage and a swift locking. If we're lucky I'd give that about four days.  :juggle:

Should've saved that one up for a copy of Amazing Spider-Man 96.

The usual justification on Ebay is "I am not a professional grader".

More like 'I am trying to learn, and I am currently being mentored in this process by an alpha male chimpanzee at our local zoo. However, I have yet to come anywhere close to his primate level of grading accuracy, so please cut me some slack."

Would be more truthful.

Assuming this book is by the same seller as the VF- ASM books, I'm guessing that the seller simply isn't aware of how much stains and/or staple rust brings down a book. Probably thinks that creasing is the main factor bringing down the grade (as the books look to be relatively crease-free). But yeah, still way over-graded.

All were from the same seller. And I agree as all his books look to have water damage.

I do think @Point Fivehad a good point earlier in this thread. The seller could just be copying and pasting item listings.

Thanks. But it's actually **worse** than copying-and-pasting, which would at least take some conscious effort! Ebay's **default** way to start a listing is "here's an existing listing that we're cloning exactly for you; you can wave it through as is or tinker with it as you see fit". Like, if you're a seller who has no idea what VF- means, chances are probably pretty decent you'll just leave that bit alone.

Yeah, that's what I meant except less eloquently. :roflmao:

First off - Congrats to @zzutak for a great new thread....

Now, for my "entry" into this topic.

As the kids today say, "To be fair...." I did not win the most recent CGC grading contest and so maybe I should not be judging this, however, I am trying to figure out in what Bizarro world someone would have to live in to give the below book an "8.5 VF+".   Oh, and pay no attention to that sticker that says "475", as the actual asking price on this beauty is "$1,000".

To be fair, you can’t expect everyone to be a materials science expert.

This book sold after 5 bids for $31. About what you'd expect for something in the GD range. The buyer wasn't fooled.

Time for another installment of "mock the overgrader"

More "Mock the blatant, obvious gouging".
