Yes, on the famous DKR #1 cover, is his back towards us, the reader? That's how I'd always interpreted it, but apparently, that's wrong.

Which way do you think he's facing?

Never noticed that before.

Still think he’s facing away.

Works just as well for me.

Has done for over 3 decades.

If it was back to the viewer, wouldn't we be able to see the right (as viewed from the back) cowl horn too?

Nah. Both actually work (front and rear).

Has to be back because of the angle on the boot heels.

Millar actually had a history of exaggerating boot heels. It's one of his signature motifs. Once you start looking, you'll start to see it in his art.

The question is a very interesting one, but even more interesting is who chose to black out the silhouette?

Miller, Janson or Varley?

Any OA people with a deeper knowledge of this have any thoughts?

Varley painted Silhouette....Miller added white paint for lightning

So Varley chose to black out Miller's pencils?

I would imagine it was a mutual artistic decision. Varley may not have chosen to do it but it's what was done for publication

That's a conversation that I'd love to know more about.
