Anyone know what these markings could mean?  They look to be replaced as the book moved around.  Maybe a zip code or country code, but a quick search shows that might put you on an island in the middle of the Pacific!

It doesn't have to be an area or country code - it could just be somebody doodling something on the book.

Those are books from a collection Jim Payette sold. IIRC they were the original owner's inventory system.

Confirmed!  Mr Payette recognized the book image and reiterated it was a sequencing the owner used and changed regularly on the face of the books.  Thanks all!

It's interesting that it was a Half Price Books find. Were there a lot? I wonder if a someone passed and their collection wound up there.
