The SS6 I had been after for years. It's a low grade copy, but I'm happy to own it. 

The FF1 was an upgrade from a restored copy. 

And the last one was a tough tough choice. I picked up a few Bakers that I love and a Young Romance #1 (first romance comic by Simon and Kirby) among others. Ultimately I went with a recent purchase from @Readcomix. It was Joe Sinnot's personal copy of Marvel Tales 109 signed by Joe on the story he drew. 

Joe is one of my favorites and I'm really happy to have this little connection to him.

Here’s my top 3 of the year - all ECs. 
 

1. Haunt of Fear 15 (1) - This may be my favorite book in my collection. Absolutely love the cover.

2. Tales from the Crypt 20 (1) - The complete opposite of the Haunt of Fear. I hate this cover but, hey, it’s a TFTC 1.

3. Vault of Horror 13 - Recent addition. Another great Craig cover.

I have a nice memory from when this book came out. I was pounding the pavement all over Manhattan looking for it and every comic shop had under-ordered it and sold out. As a last resort I tried an oddball shop called Sohozat near Canal Street (anyone remember them?)... but no, they'd sold out too. I left the store and was walking across a parking lot when the store owner shouted after me... he'd found ONE copy in the back that someone had reserved and never claimed. I walked home with it feeling like a million bucks! and read it through as soon as I got home and was blown away. Very exciting time to be a comic reader.

Here are my top pickups from 2023.

1) Perfect Crime 23 - I was super excited to be able to upgrade my 4.0 copy of this book. It was bought raw in a lot with three other books. I didn’t see a picture of it before purchasing so I was definitely happy once I saw the shape it was in. This is currently the highest graded copy of a tough to find classic.

2) Venus 19 - Most years this would have been my #1. It’s been near the top of my WTB list for a long time. I don’t typically buy much on Instagram but that’s where this one came from. 

3) Shocking Mystery Cases 50 - I picked this one up from a local auction house that typically deals in model trains and they happened to get a nice collection of GA books in. Got lucky being at the right place at the right time.

That Venus 19  Seeing that issue in higher grades is the highlight of my day. 

And WOW that Wolverine in 9.9? I mean, a book with that much black ink coverage - especially one from 1982 - that pegs a 9.9 is

All Star Comics 8, Sensation Comics 1 are both forever out my wheel house. So having the privilege of at least owning her 3rd appearance/ 2nd cover is my greatest achievement to date.

 

As a 90’s baby I grew up watching both the Justice League, Justice League Unlimited series. Which served as an induction into the world of DC.
